Love the Infuse, things I miss from the iPhone 4

I've had the Infuse now for just under 2 weeks. I like it a lot. This is my first Android phone. Some things I miss from the iPhone 4:

* In the browser, tapping the top of the screen to go to the top (and search bar). Is there a way to do this in the Android browser?

* Screenshots. I believe there are apps to do this, but in the iPhone it was smooth, simply, fast. Press 2 buttons and done. Wish the Infuse had something like that.

* In the call log, I wish you could turn check marks on/off for each category to display. For example, I want Missed and Dialed calls, but none of the others.

* In the video camera, if I want the LED light on, I need to start recording. I want to turn the light on w/out pressing record (and without having to add an app).

With the exception of screenshots, I consider these as minor things.

I second that on the screen shots .. Just got the Infuse yesterday from having the iPhone 4 .. I love it, but there's just some minor things I miss about the simplicity of iOS

Yep, I also miss the accuracy of the screen. Texting on any android is just not as easy as the iphone, I don't care what keyboard you use. I guess my complaint is more if you have to click and edit, the iphone always clicked the right spot, sometimes my infuse decides to go a row down from where I clicked etc.
-Yes the email swipe to delete is something I too miss
-I also miss the fact that the iphone apps never crash. The more I use this phone, the more apps I have that force close. And some of the apps you can't send a report so you know its just going to keep happening. I understand that developers try to make them work, but lets face it there are like 80 different android phones, and several apps I have force close on a continuous basis. Before you say Reset and reinstall, I have, and updated etc, its just the nature of the beast.

Pressing the "search" button should open up the bar, but it doesn't necessarily take you to that top of the page. Is that what you want it to do?

Android's way is a bit more complicated since it's not built into the default OS. Unfortunately I don't think there's a simple/elegant way to do this.

I don't think there's a way to do this, but that's a nice feature. You should notice an icon to illustrate the difference though, right?

I don't have apps that force close on me, but I have a phone with Vanilla Android (D1). The only app that force closed on me was the crappy Facebook app after the last update, and I hear that crashed a lot on iOS too.

As far as swipe to delete, you may or may not end up preferring the Android way. IMO the ability to delete multiple items at once or long press to delete is superior, but not everybody feels that way. I prefer granular control as well as the confirmation that I'm deleting something intentionally.

One more miss... Visual Voice Mail. Sure, you can use G/Voice or YouMail, but the way it is built into the iPhone with ATT is nice.

One thing I LOVE on Android are the widgets. I'm not a fan of overloading with widgets, but 3 that I love are:

* Picture Frame (stock Android)
* Fancy Widgets (free)
* FlightView (free)

I also like the Google integration (if you can use such a word since it's all Google anyways). I have adopted Gmail and G/Calendar heavily, and it just works better on Android than on iPhone.

==> This will do and works nice. Sometimes something right in your face is less than obvious. Perfect and thank you!

I don't think there's a way to do this (select for call log), but that's a nice feature. You should notice an icon to illustrate the difference though, right?

==> Yes, I see the icon and I can also pick one category to show. I wish you could select multiple categories.

==> I didn't know long press to delete. This works in Messaging? Email? Gmail?

I just tested press and hold to delete in messaging and Gmail and this is way cool. Again, something simple and maybe obvious but it wasn't to me. Maybe my brain was simply too iOS focused and still looking for the swipe to the right. Press and hold rocks!

While on the web you can also press the options button just to the left of the home button at the bottom of the glass and it will drop down the search bar with favorites icon and bring up an options screen.

One more miss... Visual Voice Mail

Hmm, this must be a carrier-specific thing. On Verizon, they offer a Visual Voice Mail app for free (and it works well) but it's a $2.99/month service. I haven't tried any other apps to see if they can do this for free, but I wonder if AT&T offers something in the market similar to how Verizon does it?

As far as Long Press is concerned, experiment with it as much as possible. Long press sometimes surprises me in that it is available in apps that I've been using for over a year, but I just never noticed it. It makes many tasks much simpler. Long press on the home screen to add things, long press within an app to modify things (won't work in all apps). For example, long press on any spot in the "Maps" app and it will load the address. Long press within a text message and it will give you options to copy the message text, etc. Open the Music app and long press on a song, and it will bring up a menu to Play, Add to Playlist, Shop for Artist, etc..

It's just one of those things that is opposite of how things work in iOS that converts either end up hating or loving.

I seriously miss a functional GPS.
I've tried all the fixes...which usually work for a bit but eventually revert to the same ole "waiting on GPS fix". It's a shame cause the Android Maps/Navigation are sweet.

IF the iphone5 has a larger screen that works for my eyes....I'll be selling my beautiful Infuse in a few months. I use the GPS features WAY to much and just want it to work properly.
Oh well....don't get me wrong...everything else about the Infuse 4G is sweet...and once you go to a larger screen it will be hard to go back.

You are kidding right? ??

The Weather channel on my iphone crashed frequently. No way to send an error report. Facebook also crashed on it. The iphone 4 would just start to slow down after about a week. My wifes 3Gs does not do this. every 2 days or so I would swipe to answer and it wouldn't. KNown bug, but do they fix it? Nope.

Yeah sure, somethings are easier on iOS but I'll be honest. I hated being tied to Apple and still do for my wifes phone.

Another thing I miss from iOS... when going to the Photo Gallery, and sending a photo via email, iOS will ask you what size (native, small, medium, large or something to that effect). In the Infuse (or any Android device?) it sends it in native size with no option to downsize. Most of the time with the Infuse, I would prefer to send a smaller size/file.

The one thing that I missed about the iPhone 4 was the games. But there were too many features missing from IOS and the lack of integration with multiple apps or functions made using it a little stale. I love my voice to text and GPS. Being able to watch YouTube in high quality when not on wifi, bigger screen, ability to change keyboards, Widgets, syncing multiple Google calendars, and superior notification system makes Android a winner for me.

Only regret I have is the antenna. I get no service on the nightstand in my bedroom. Sometimes none in my living room. My iPhone had at least 3 bars in both of those locations. I also lose service on the road in spots I never did before.

True, Facebook would crash constantly. I also had the problem where I would receive a phone call and couldn't answer it.

The iPhone is a great phone but not perfect. I switched about a month back and honestly there are a very few things I miss, one of them is the Facebook app, the iOS version is better.

I love the fact though that Android lets you start an e-mail and attach a picture later. In iOS you would have to start the e-mail with the from the Photos app.
