LOVE the phone... can't take the battery.

Got through 14 hours yesterday including 1 hour of naviagtion, 2 hours of phone calls, tons of texting, and 3 hours of streaming the audio of a baseball game.

No task manager, but I don't have any social networks set to update automatically but I do have a push exchange account.

Battery has been fine for me.

I wish i could get times like that...im going to assume i got a crappy battery!!!

but there is hope...

extended battery option....that doens't look bad at all...it doesn't look as bad as some other pics that I have seen....looks like it might be a little slimmer then other 3500...ill definitely be investing in this

also with this looks like you would have to worry a little less about the camera being scratched which would be a plus as well

UPDATE: After using ATK and the 20 tips I found in this thread I was getting great battery life. I have uninstalled ATK to see if this will make a difference.

With ATK installed and killing apps every 30 minutes on Aggressive I was getting about 12-14 hours of battery life.

It may be possible that the battery just needed a few cycles before I started getting the real uptime. Thank you to everyone for all your help you have provided.

The only thing I really do is turn location off when I don't need it and I unplug it after it is fully charged, watch it go down 4-5% then plug it back in again until 100%. Yesterday I got 14 hours and I used it quite a bit. I have 3 email accounts all on push (Gmail, Exchange and Touchdown), I did a bunch of web browsing and Marketplace shopping and even ran 4G for about 2 hours (1 bar territory) but only made 2 short calls. I am pretty happy with it overall (3GS might be slightly better), but if you are going to make a bunch of phone calls, it's gonna die quicker.

Add the widget "Power Control" and use the heck out of it. My favorite button is the brightness. It gives you quick access to dim or brighten the screen. Makes it easy to adjust it down quickly while indoors or up while outside.

Also being able to control Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS and the automatic sync of accounts easily helps as well! (If you use 4G you will have to add the "4G" button by taping "+" on the bottom right corner of the home screen, then widget, then Settings and you will see "4G) This is a must if you use 4G at all as it will drain the battery quickly. You can turn off and on with the button from one of the home screens. Try not to use it unless you need it.

I thought mine was getting better but yesterday it let me down. I had a full charge over night and then Sunday morning made 3 short phone calls and about 5 minutes of web. Battery was fully discharged in 3 hours.

Backed to being bummed about the battery. I guess I'm going to have to buy another battery just to carry with me.

I'm really starting to think that the code that detects battery level is simply incorrect. This morning, I took the phone off the charger at 8:30. By the time I left the house at 8:50, the battery was at 90%. All I did within that time span was to check my email, read two emails and batch delete about ten messages.
I simply can't believe that it would have gone through 10% of the battery in twenty minutes of very light usage.

When my wife first got her Samsung Moment(Android), the battery life was about as bad. Several months later, Samsung released an update which made the phone go from abysmal, to excellent battery life. Part of the problem had been incorrect battery levels.

I am hoping that HTC quickly releases an update to improve and correctly measure battery level.

My battery life is all over the place.... I have been averaging 14 - 16 hours a day with just under 20% left when I plug it up. Yesterday (Sunday) my 7 year old took the phone off the charger around 7:30 in the morning and she was on the couch streaming You Tube.. I left her alone and started to make coffee and breakfast.. The whole time she is searching and streaming you tube... She was probably doing this for a good hour before I took my phone back.... I checked the battery meter and it had 9 green blocks and only 1 was gone.. After an hour of you tube video? Any way... I didn't really use the phone much until later in the afternoon while switching between the NASCAR race and a couple of baseball games I was surfing the web pretty hard for a couple of hours... Talked with a good friend of mine for nearly 40 minutes while he was home on leave from Iraq and then was basically on and off the phone all night while watching the Celtics vs Lakers game..... When I went to plug it up on the charger about 9:45 last night after the game I still have 40%+ battery life left...... a good 14 hours of good use..... On what I consider lighter use I got less life out of it... Maybe the battery is starting to hit it's stride.. I know it says you don't get FULL battery life until after a few charges and discharges...... We'll see how she holds up today...

Part of the reason stock cell phone UI's use a vague bar system to represent battery life opposed to a precise percentage is that the battery doesn't drain evenly. Lithium Ion batteries tend to drain quickly at the high end, then level off towards the middle of the discharge voltage.

If you look at a bar that maybe has 5 levels, the discharge looks uniform and normal. But if you look at a precise percentage, it looks like the battery is discharging at a crazy rate. You can't think of it as going through 10% of the battery in 20 minutes, just that battery voltage is now 10% lower than it's full voltage.

Still, I am now convinced that the battery indicator is completely out of whack. About a half hour ago, I checked the battery level. It was displaying 75% then. I just checked it again and it is now displaying 85%.

I'm just going to let it run all day without plugging it and see how long it takes to shut off.

you guys should just be using the battery life widget which shows the battery voltage. voltage is much better than the percentage. i know at full charge my nexus battery is 4.172 Volts. and it goes down from there during the day. after weeks of watching this, i know exactly what voltage means at any given level.

the percentage just varies too much, but the voltage reading will always be similar.

Yeah I can't imagine pulling off 61 hours on a single charge... Best I got was close to 30 hours before it got to 15% remaining and that was after spending 8 hours in the car and 9 hours sleeping the night before... MAYBE you can pull of an extra 10 hours if you shut it off at night while your sleeping (with out charging) but 40 hours with little to no use would be the max (again that's if you shut it off while sleeping)

I am averaging 16 - 18 hours on a single charge with moderate use. I have noticed a major improvement on battery life while at home I keep it hooked to my WiFi network and the battery does not drain as fast as turning it off and using 3G. When I leave the house I just turn the WiFi antenna off so it's not searching for a signal that isn't there....

I have been testing the WiFi thing out today while working from home... From 8 this morning until 11:30 the phone was still showing 100% battery life.. right around noon it finally dropped to 90% with light usage (A few e-mails, two facebook updates, 5 or 6 text messages and maybe 20 minutes of internet usage) almost 1 and it's reading 84% battery... that is 5 hours.... Will see how it holds up the rest of the day...

That sounds good. What's the name of the one you use that shows voltage?

the one i use is called battery life, free in the market. i have a nice 2x1 widget right at the top of my center homescreen. and make sure you go into its settings to enable "extended info" checkbox which will give you the voltage and temperature.

Today's my first full day using the phone at work, in normal usage. A lot of emails, some web surfing, downloaded a program, half a dozen phone calls, a couple of texts. Probably more tinkering that typical, just because the phone is new.

About 5 minutes of WiFi tethering, just to see if it worked (it did). 3G on all day, a couple of minutes of 4G (about 50% faster on mobilespeedtest compared to 3G) just to compare speeds. No WiFi except for the tether test.

After 10 hours I was at 20% capacity. So I can easily get through a normal work day. Since I can charge it at my desk or in the car, or even via my laptop if I'm out of the office all day, I'm reasonably satisfied. I may tinker a little more to see if I can get it higher, but this will do.

I took the phone off the charger at 6am, got to work, listened to music on it for about 5 hours and texted about 10-12 times. Right now it's 5:30 and I'm at 25%. Does that sound reasonable? My music volume was set to halfway and my screen brightness is like 20%, although I manually shut it off.

Spent the whole day out yesterday and got home at 11:30 pm with my battery meter over 50%. I gotta say turning off the wifi via the simple wifi on/off widget and not letting the gps run all day worked perfect. Not to mention we were at Disney and was taking videos and pictures of my daughter enjoying her self throughout the whole day along with uploading them to you tube and sending txt's and emails. today is another full day at work with the phone and been showing it off to co-workers and battery is at 80% still.

I'm happy to say that the battery level indicator is just kind of crazy. This morning, it showed that the battery had gone down 10% in about twenty minutes.

I decided to ignore the battery indicator and didn't charge the phone all day. It has now been unplugged for about 10 hours. I've used it fairly lightly with a few phone calls, some light browsing and some medium email usage.

It is now showing 41% charge left after 10 hours. That's pretty great.

Compared to my Pre this battery is amazing. I got 17 hrs with WiFi only on with moderate usage and 10 hrs with WiFi and Bluetooth on. Neither time was the battery fully dead when I plugged back in.
