low wifi speed on my nexus 10

Hi, I wonder if anyone could give me any advice on how to improve my signal on the nexus 10. Whenever I check the link speed it says 24mpbs with fair connection and it just won't go above this.
I also have a laptop in the same room that reaches up to 135mpbs but genearally doesn't go above 65mpbs so could it be the router settings? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I really want to stream football and movies and am struggling with my current connection. Thanks

What 24mpbs? I saw a picture on another forum of someone showing well over 100 mpbs his nexus 10.
