How can key ring use massive battery drain if you only activate as needed? If you are referring to notifications settings simply turn those off.

I just read the reviews, and I'm surprised. I always activate KeyRing, use it, then close it. And I'm in the habit of closing running apps frequently, have been since Honeycomb... I guess that's why I never saw any problem.

I have now disabled location services for this app in the phone's settings and in the app itself. I'm confident this will be addressed in a future update, but for now that should prevent any issues.

Ok, installed Key Ring, I'll give it a try today. I went into settings and turned everything off so I don't see how it could cause battery drain.

Hopefully it'll work, but thinking no on screen bar code will scan. Such a little convenience but it was nice to have.

I'm still using Beep 'n Go, although it is no longer available in Play Store it still works fine. Only thing not working is syncing with other family members, they all have to scan the card details into their phones.

Plenty of 3rd party apps waste resources when idle. Facebook was heavily guilty of this for a while.

Another benefit of KeyRing is they also have a web interface, so it's simple to add or delete cards that way also.

Yeah, I also still have Beep 'n Go on the Pixel which is what I used on my note edge. The reason it worked was it used Samsung's proprietary MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) technology.

I tested at the club and could put the back of my Note to the health clubs card reader and it would log me in.

With the Pixel, I need to rely on the screen barcode and their cheap scanner can't read the on screen Beep 'n Go barcode.

Looks like I will miss working out at the health club today so can't test Key Ring tonight, too much football and the Violent Femmes tonight. Well, I'll test the camera in a concert setting.

Tried KeyRing at the health club did not work. Their reader can't read a barcode on a phone screen. They told me one guy uses his phone all the time, I said "yeah that was me with my old Samsung Note".

Need to go old school scan an laminate the original card so I can have one one each of my physical key rings.

Beep n Go which was bought by Samsung pay and integrated into Samsung Pay which can store credit cards and loyalty cards. The beauty of Samsung pay is that it will work on any barcode scanner. This is why Samsung Pay works everywhere with a scanner and Android pay and Apple Pay work at Starbucks.

I have Beep n Go app on the Pixel but it can't emit an MST signal which all scanners can read without reading the barcode. So Beep n Go only shows the barcode which some scanners can't read on a phone screen.

I just scanned and printed my club card and will get it laminated for my second key ring.

It's the best option since A) it's completely native, so safe and updated regularly. B) carries over automatically from device to device. C) gives you a notification when you go to a store you have a card stored for.

If they could just have it apply at checkout using a cc on Android pay, it would be perfect.

Can you explain your last two points–the notification and applying at checkout using credit card? –I've had NFC for a while but have never used Android Pay. –The fact that so many Android apps insist on permissions for so many apps has made me scared to use Android Pay, so I'd appreciate your information. Thanks!

Since you opened the door...

I've been using StoCards for my loyalty cards and AndroidPay for, well, paying for stuff.

Reading the support for AndroidPay loyalty cards in this thread, I thought, okay, I'll set up a few and see what I think.

So I did. Of course, not carrying the cards around with me meant that I had to enter them in Android Pay by copying and pasting the card number from StoCards to Android Pay. This works fine for Stop & Shop and ShopRite cards - that is, when I tap the card in Android Pay, it displays a barcode.

However, when I did the same with my Planet Fitness card, it displays the card number only as readable digits; no barcode.

What's up with that?

That could be a case that the vendor hasn't worked with Google to develop an API or something where you can have a barcode. When I look at the cards and look specifically hotel loyalty cards, I have a barcode for Starwood, but not for Marriott. I think as mobile pay options continue to grow with Android Pay, Samsung Pay, and Apple Pay leading that charge (all three allow for loyalty card applications), it's just a matter of time.

So, I just went out to my car and dug through the glove compartment where I found my PF card. I set it up again in Android Pay using the "scan card" function and now I get the barcode. It's weird.

I will have to give it a try when next at the gym (Monday); I do note that StoCards presents a much larger barcode image which I suspect scans better (using the PF scanners) then the smaller image presented by Android Pay.

I'd be curious to see if it scans just fine. I know the cards I have with bar codes have worked for me without issue so far.

Speaking of Android Pay...

I primarily use it in grocery stores and that means primarily Stop & Shop here in Connecticut. Recently I have something strange going on - when I go to pay with my Pixel 2 XL, I use the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone (as always) and hold it to the terminal (as always) but then Android Pay pops up a security page and asks me to enter my pin or use the FPS to unlock Android Pay and then I have to touch the terminal again.

What's up with that?

I can't say exactly when this began; it could be Pixel 2 XL specific (I don't think so), it could be because I am running the Oreo 8.1 beta (I'm not sure about this one either), or it could be related to the fact that late last week I temporarily disabled security on the phone because I wanted to test something and then re-enabled it and, as a result, had to redo my registered fingerprints and a few apps that use them (I think this is the cause).

I can't locate any setting that looks like it would affect this problem.

@N4Newbie - that is odd. I have it setup on my Nexus 6P, and I too have the Oreo 8.1 beta, but it runs just fine for me at any grocery POS (I'm in the St. Louis, MO area). When it reads, the image of the credit card I have it tied to appears, with the Android guy animating (and chimes) when it goes through. I'm assuming a CC is setup (and confirmed) on your Android Pay?

Edit: the only oddity I get is when occasionally some POS will ask for my CC pin (for Debit), but that's it.
