LS670ZVD taking up space, are there undeleted install files?

Got the update yesterday (unrooted phone), and much to my dismay, after it installed, I have something like 7 meg of internal space left. Are there undeleted install files somewhere that I can get rid of? Otherwise I'm gonna have to uninstall some stuff. Not happy 'bout that.

thanks.

Download DiskUsage from the Market.
Open it up, and select App Storage.
Press the menu button, select filters, check "Show Cache" and make sure everything else is checked also.
Post results?

I couldn't see a section for the cache (it is turned on to show), but it says;

Data: 164.9 MB

Apps: 120.8 MB

System Data: 20.2 mb

Free Space: 23.8 mb (I removed a few apps recently).

Is there a particular app's cache I should be looking at?

I'm assuming you can't see cache or dalvik because you aren't rooted, but that seems about right.

Since you aren't rooted, I'm assuming you accepted the OTA update, but there are several threads on here on how you can revert, root, and then re-update (with a bit of elbow grease ;) ).

The benefits of doing so? You can easily clear your entire cache to free up space, and move way more apps to your SD card. I'd recommend it, even if you aren't looking to install a custom ROM.

I'm strongly considering it, as I'd like to be able to move more stuff over to my SD card. Thanks!

So are you saying that it probably did leave something in there, but if I do it rooted, it won't?

First do this:

Once reverted, download this:
xda-developers
(you have to register, but it's easy to do and will undoubtedly be helpful later down the road ;) )

At that point, install CWMA Custom Recovery:

(almost) Last, but not least, download the LG Updater tool from LG's website and return to VD!

Then download a custom ROM (or the stock rooted one posted here), boot to the recovery, then flash the zip with the instructions posted on your ROM-of-choice's page. :)

There might be some stuff in your cache taking up a fair bit of space, and being rooted certainly helps in the task of clearing it up efficiently.

I'm thinking about it... I'm still somewhat new to this, and am doing some research (still learning about ROMS and custom recoveries and such), but my big question is this.., if I go with the stock root, and then Sprint updates, or let's say we finally get Gingerbread, what happens? It usually just unroots the phone, right?

Now, if I go with a custom recovery or a custom ROM and there's an update, what then? That's the only thing I haven't quite figured out yet, as I'd like to go with ThunderRom so I can tether.

Is there a way to refuse the Sprint updates?

Thanks again.

You just wait until TR updates to gingerbread and flash TR.

Just don't accept them. If you remove something they are updating that you don't need, like for example Sprint ID, then the update won't run even if you accept it.

You can also change the build.prop fingerprint to make it look like you already have the update and/or rename otacerts.zip so the update fails the signature check.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly, if I put on TR, just refuse the updates, never use it, and then install the TR gingerbread instead of the OTA?

Basically, if I root and don't accept any updates, I'm okay?

Thanks so much for your help.

That is correct. The nagging can get excessive though, so you probably want to do something to stop them. It'll be annoying enough that someone else will have come up with a way to stop the nagging. Also usually there's a new ROM version based on the new release soon after it is released so you wouldn't have to deal with the nagging too long.

Really the only potentially big issue with updates and such is when the radio firmware gets updated. I'm 100% positive that when LG releases gingerbread there will be a radio update as well. All (or most) of the newer ROMs at that point would be built on the new radio, and custom recoveries can't currently flash radio images, so updating would be necessary at that point.
