lte band issue... using 4g switcher app

I'm using oneplus with net 3, and the handset only provides for one of net 3's LTE bands. Strangely, though it does go to 4g when available, I still find that when it's running slow, on a late band or not, that if I force it to switch to lte by using a play store 4g switcher and selecting late only, it often finds a band and the speed increases significantly. I can't though receive phone calls in this'mode'so it's only useful for a late night movie. Though I am still uncertain as to the reason for such behavior? Any ideas.

I guess there are not many members of this who use network 3 in the UK, so no answers to LTE band issue... Oh well..
