LTE Lights Up in San Antonio

The startup process will be ongoing over the next few months. The process in SA will be ongoing until sometime in October. It started out at only 18% completion on the launch date.

Thanks for that one I didn't see that post. I just assume, as most consumers do, if you are going to say it is live, and post maps, it should be 100%. That being said, I can wait as it was plenty fast when I was able to test it.

I remember the launch of Wimax being similar to this. When I got my OG EVO on launch day, Wimax was just launching in San Antonio. I had to go outside in order to get a very weak signal for the first few weeks. Then after a few weeks there was a dramatic improvement. I think the LTE startup will be about the same. At least I can get it inside the house this time. lol

mggm100, as I didn't live in anyplace that had LTE on launch day I didn't have the experience. Thanks for sharing.

One thing I have realized is that when I am in an area with LTE the 4G indicator stays lit (does not go gray) with gray arrows unlike the 3G indicator which is gray with gray arrows. Does anyone know if this is normal behavior as I know when the 3G is lit up it means it is chewing through battery moving data and it appears that LTE is killing my battery (this could be because I keep turning the screen on to look)with the 4G/LTE lamp on, but no arrows flashing.

Id expect LTE at this point of roll out from SPRINT to cause a significant battery drain... and heres why:

1) its not nowhere near completion from a ROLL OUT standpoint
- Your fone will be looking for the LTE more constantly causing battery drain
2) When LTE kicks in we will be anxious to test it so playing with our fones will cause more battery drains as we rung SPEED TESTS and THE Screen is ON more OFTEN.

3) These are the first fones from SPRINT to have LTE so the Antennas will not be as efficient as fones that will come out 6 months or 12 months from now.

Point ONE is really the major caveat...i expect to have a toggle widget just like I did for my OLD EVO and know the areas where LTE is kicking and only use it when I really need it... such as streaming video, or fast web browsing experience.

I really miss 4G wimax so im anxious to even have SUM connection to LTE...you guys in Middle America are Lucky...

The arrows change back and forth from gray to white when I'm on LTE.
