I have the LTE version watch if my phone is shut off or happens to run out of power before I charge it I don't see the ability to actually send or receive messages with the watch. It keeps trying to connect to the phone I'm wondering if there's a setting of missing cuz I didn't see one

Has the eSIM been set up by your carrier, Amy? Without that, the watch can't connect to anything but the phone.

I don't mean to resurrect an old thread, but I'm pretty sure I read while setting up the watch that a Bluetooth connection to the phone is necessary to use Messages. I.e. it cannot be used independently of the phone (disappointingly!)

Pretty sure this is accurate. I recall reading the same.
