Since I was under my 30 days with the X and my playtime with the Fascinate at the store was so great I went ahead and switch my phone over and now I was just wondering a couple of things.

1. I verified that the phone does have Gorilla Glass with the rep so should I still get a screen protector or does anyone think it isn't necessary. Also the back looks good but is it as scratch resistant as the front or should I get a case for it?

2. What are the absolute must do things to the phone out of the box after installing the google applications (apps or widgets etc..)?

As fast as question one no not necessary but its a good idea though gorilla glass is very strong this helps against those little scratches that can show up over time. Get google maps and nav for the second question and play a graphics intensive game or watch a divx movie and take in that beautiful screen

Don't have an answer to your questions above, but I am curious what was your deciding factor in making the switch. I am trying to decide between the Droid X and Fascinate. I like both. I just thought I'd ask you as you seem to have used both. Thank in advance.

Mainly for me it came down to going to the store and playing with my Droid X and the display Fascinate at the same time for about an hour. The screen on the Fascinate is beautiful the difference while gaming was noticeable even in the motion controls. Also and this may just be me but the feel of the screen itself was better, my wife described it as feeling glossy while the X screen felt like paper if that makes any sense lol. The camera on the Fascinate seemed better as well, I know the X has an 8MP camera but the 5MP on the Fascinate just seemed to get the job done better IMO and that can probably be fixed on the X with upgraded camera app?

Hope that was of some help to you.

I am still an android noob to answer your second question but as for the screen protector I bought it and put it on but I did not like it. The screen did not look so beautiful. So I took it off. The screen is supposed to be scratch resistant but it does get a little smudgy due to fingerprint. It is not so bad and I can live with that. I just wipe the screen once in a while. As for the case I did buy one just to feel safe. I don't know if you really need it or not.

I was at a verizon store today and played with both phones. I also felt that the screen on the Fascinate was a smoother experience than the X. I took pics with both, I felt the X took a better pic, however the camera app on the Fascinate was more fluid and quicker. To many things to factor, but I appreciate your quick response.

I've got both the X and the Fascinate right now and they both have their pluses and minuses. For me, I think the Fascinate is likely going to win the battle for a few reasons.

First is the form factor. The thinness and weight are a huge deal to me as I wear dress slacks all day and the X is a little big in my pocket. The thing people don't mention is that the dimensions are quite similar between the fascinate and the X...meaning the length and width. The weight and the thickness are substantially better with the Fascinate tho, so I believe that's a huge thing for me. I'm not as big of a fan of the SOLED screen as many others are. The small text in the Gmail app is grainy and pixellated when compared to the X. Sure, the thing is ridiculously bright, but I think the LCD on the X is a nicer display when it comes to text viewing.

Second is the speed of the camera. I get so sick and tired of trying to take my X out of my pocket and activating the camera and then missing the shot I intended to take because it takes so damn long. I'd rather have a slightly inferior camera (which the Fascinate seems to be after taking a few test shots) and actually capture what I'm trying to capture than to have a nicer camera and get to look at pictures that missed the shot I was looking for.

The speed and software to me are virtually identical...both have their pluses and minuses so that's not a big deal to me, so ultimately it comes down to hardware and I think the Fascinate just slightly edges the X. The X is definitely built better tho...the cheap plastic back on the Fascinate is almost criminal in the age of soft touch plastics and metals. Such a disappointment there. I like many others that go "naked" with their phones are already seeing some hairline scratches on the glossy cover and that's just ridiculous when the phones are just sitting on desks and whatnot.

And I also do agree that the glass screen on the Fascinate is slightly better than the X for ease of use. The X does seem slightly "stickier" so it's a little harder to drag your finger.

I own a DX since launch week and agree about camera speed...BUT BUT BUT I did play with the leaked 2.2 froyo software on my phone and it fixes the camera issues. The leaked version was a little buggy with some things so I went back to 2.1 but was tempted to keep just for the great camera experience. Single click photo which focuses automatically and much faster shutter speed.

Im happy with the DX but have no experience with the other phone, I came from an iphone 3gs

My issue isn't with the shutter speed per se. It's mostly the startup time for the camera to start with. The slower shutter didn't help, but it's really starting the whole application that takes WAY too long.

Yeah I agree but if I remember that was a little quicker too, its been 3 weeks or so though so not sure, I have noticed that a shortcut on a home screen launches noticeably quicker than holding the camera button, at least 1 second differance
