Magnetic car docks

Before the s6 edge I had an LG3, and I had bought this car dock that used a strong magnet. It came with two metal plates that you could adhere to the phone or case. I had an Otterbox Symmetry case, and with the plate inside it wasn't strong enough with the plate on the inside of the case so I finally stuck the plate on the outside and that clamped very securely, no issues.

Okay, I got the S6E now, and I have a Speck candyshell grip case, the one with the rubber ridge lines. I cannot place the metal plate on the back of this. Given the glass back of the phone I am loathe to put the metal inside the case either, though I tried it with a post-it-note between the metal plate and the phone and that works sort of though still worry about it. But when I do this I cannot wireless charge, the metal plate blocks it.

So I was in a best buy and they had this diplay case with a magnetic dock. At some point I put my phone up to it.... and even with the speck case on, and no metal plate.. the phone stuck. I removed the case and confirmed what I suspected, there is enough ferrous metal inside the S6 Edge (and probably S6 as well) for the magnets to grip. I'm assuming this won't damage anything since magnetic docks have been around for a time.

I went back to my car to test this on my magnetic dock... but my magnetic dock must not be quite as strong. WIth the case on it stays briefly before sliding off. Without the case... it grips, but the vibration from the car, in neutral, is enough to make it iffy. It has some grip, but just not enough. No satisfying "clump" you get with the plate. My magnet might be quite as strong as the one in the store, but I am loathe to give up on it.

Has anyone else had a good experience with a dock that works with the phone (or a case, though I'd rather not change cases I quite like the Speck) that doesn't kill wireless charging?

I still miss the days of my Palm Pré where the wireless charger also had magnetic anchor points (four on the edges, not the center where the coils were). To this day I still have the touchstone in my car, next to the magnetic dock (it is made by some company that makes a lot of these kind of generic producs, has an stylised "S" logo but their name eludes me).
