I figured this should get its own thread, and not get lost in the shuffle of the Cases thread. But I stumbled on this review of MagSafe cases and SPen interference.

In short, it seems it's the strength of the magnets on the accessories that are causing the issues with the SPen. Not exactly the Magsafe on the cases themselves.

He mentions that he is going to do a full magnet accessory review as well.

I think it has a lot to do with how the case is shielded. I used a magsafe pop wallet, which has a ridiculously strong magnet array, on a Monarch Pro and the S-Pen appeared to function normally.

That could be the case as well. But in the video, he demonstrates that the accessories are consistent across different cases. Same results across different cases. The constants are the accessories and their interference with the SPen. The Monarch Pro still showed signs of interference with the same accessories.

The video didn't discover a new world by any means. Magnets have always interfered with the spen, so with the magsafe it's the accessory not the case that interferes with the spen.

Isn't that what I said?

My point was that video isn't saying anything, it's like reinventing the wheel.
It's obviously not the cases causing the issue, it's the accessories where the magnets are.

I don't experience any interference with my wallet connected, it's a weaker magnet, I use 2 cases. The magsafe charger does give minor interference, but it's doable

Edit...I see what you're saying, but it should be expected across all cases since the accessories are magnetized. You should have tried the magnetic charger ports, that really messed with the spen

Re: MagSafe Accessories & SPen functionality

I didn't take the video as him reinventing the wheel. He's simply pointing out that people asked to test the Magsafe with an accessory attached and test the SPen. And he goes on to show that certain accessories are fine and others are an issue and clearly states that the strength of the magnets on the accessories are hit or miss when it comes to issues or not.

I was simply sharing the video because there are many people, like myself, that wanted to know if there are any issues. And he did more than answer my concern by demonstrating that some cause an issue and some don't, based on the strength of the magnet on the accessory. That's one point I never considered and has been very helpful to me. I'm sure it's just as helpful to many others.

Instead of editing post again I'll just comment..I personally find the magsafe more of a gimmick. The magsafe battery pack is bulky, gets hot, heats the phone as high as 107°. You would more then likely not use the spen with it on. Also on a 5,000 MAH battery pack, you get around 25-30% charge, it took me from 27% to 58%.

The wallet is ok, but awkward. Didn't stick real well either, always had to readjust it. The battery did sick good. I can't imagine the finger hole thing being that great. I'm not going to find out. I've wasted enough money on magsafe. That's my opinion anyway

Nothing wrong with sharing it. I was just saying anything with a magnet gives spen issues, hence me saying reinventing the wheel.

I suppose it's not bad to see video for that. He needs to make a video showing magsafe isn't anything great. Show the things I mentioned. I'll probably never use that stuff anymore, I made my donation for magsafe.

Had you asked him for the video sooner, you could have saved the money, lol

That's why I'm pointing this out, so others can save their money. This is minor to money I've wasted on phone gimmicks, MagSafe is just added to the list.

I would say if you have a spen and use it moderately I would avoid magsafe

I told you not to bother with the battery pack lol.

But I agree with you, all we really learn is that some accessory and case combos are a problem and some aren't, which we knew.

I know, I know.

Sometimes we don't listen to great advice. Well now there's 2 of us saying it here, hopefully everyone will listen now. I'm going one step further and saying magsafe is a gimmick.

I also tried 2 cases, one case the mag ring was adhesive on outside the case and one the mag ring was not exposed, built in. The one where the ring is exposed had better sticking with the accessories. The case that's not exposed, UAG monarch, the sticking was greatly reduced, as to be expected.

I was going to do magsafe car mount and semi truck mount, but after testing the items I've already tried I'm not investing more money. My truck gets a little bumpy and I would never trust it holding my phone with the results I've experienced.
