Mail App Won't Sync Unless Opened

Hi!
My hotmail account doesnt SYNC at all in my HTC One X phone, I cant send/receive emails. So I've tried everything you recommended about the Exchange Active Sync but the manual configuration wont work, and error authentification message appears, so i had to click "next" for the automatic configuration and made it that way and reboot the phone, but I have the same problem, it doesnt work, still doesnt sync. The round SYNC sign appears in red and/or with a exclamation point.
Can someone please help me, this is a BIG problem with the phone. Thanks

For me it worked when I added the MS Exchange account through the Settings app after I had deleted the account I had added through the Email app.
