MailDroid

Is there an option to display the number of new messages on the app's icon (like the stock app) in the works, or is it already there, and I'm just missing it? :) Thanks!

Here's my (maybe only) frustration with MailDroid...

There are times when I'll open the app, and it will update the ad-banner at the bottom. But then it will complain that it's "not online" and/or can't retrieve messages or delete existing ones, etc.

If it's not online, how did it just update the ad? I can tell you if I kill the app and restart it, it'll connect to my mail server immediately, so it's not the mail server. It needs to get a lot more resilient to network connections or something. It should certainly be able to recover from this, and it should do it without me having to kill it.

When the "More" button is pressed in order to add another recipient to an outgoing email can the focus be set to the new textbox instead of the subject line?

Ditto. Same problem. New mail stops showing up, email read elsewhere and deleted isn't removed, etc. As soon as I kill the app and go back into it, it works fine again for a while. Even refreshing the email doesn't do anything. It must be killed.

I still like Maildroid but.....
I think K9 leapfrogged over it. I was dependent on sleep hours for notifications which Maildroid pioneered. With the last update of K9, sleep hours have been instituted with rudimentary customization but adequate for me. I think the options for K9 in the notification bar are superior. In addition the combined inbox in K9 displays messages instantaneously as opposed to Maildroid. I also found a popup program (email notifier) which integrates with K9.....I asked the developer to include integration for Maildroid but am still waiting. The maildroid developer has been extremely responsive and I am hopeful he can play catchup.

Add me to the list of people that are having similar problems.

I am getting a NullPointerException Error when I delete an email on my Epic.
I also get the same error when I click on refresh.
It is also not deleting the email on gmail. Any ideas?

Yeah, I don't want to bash MailDroid, but I tried switching to K9 over the holiday break, and I haven't had any of the issues I had with MD. Plus no advertisements to slow things down.

Trying to decide between MailDroid and K9. Although I really like the MD interface, K9 is growing on me. K9 also has the ability to send emails to Print Share for printing.

I see the ad on the bottom of the screen for MailDroid Pro being available now. I just don't know if I'd be willing to shell out $17.99, especially when comparing features between these two apps.

A mail program is not worth 17.99, no matter how good it is. The price has to be a mistake. It should be more like 2.99. I like K-9 better for my needs over Maildroid. You should go with what works for you. If you like Maildroid, then use the ad version for free, unless you think 17.99 is worth the price of no ads.

You should use whatever works best for you. I came up with the price after comparing with other email apps on the market for sale. It is not set in stone, but it seems users buying it now are ok with the price.

@everyone

Kind of hard to visit the forums and be as active as I used to be, but real work, maildroid work and tons of support takes all my time. Remember, I do have to play catchup to k9, but I am not really looking to do everything that it does. K9 is a great mail application and had a huge head start of over a year of development, more developers, and using the base code of the stock application (although not sure how much of that code is left now). K9 has tons of features and I salute the developers. MailDroid tries to take a simpler approach to email. MD has added many features that are for advanced users, but the goal is still to make things simple. Why should email be complex to set up...

As for the price, it's a decision for you. I won't stop development on the ad version but the pro may have a few extra features. For those that hated ads, this is a welcome improvement (memory and cpu is a lot better). For those that don't mind the ads, keep on rolling with that. Finally, for those trying K9, go for it. You need to use whatever works for you.

Didn't mean any disrespect. I'm really liking the way MailDroid look and works. Just figuring out the best app for my personal needs.

I did not even read your message that way :-) I do believe that everyone should figure out what works best for them and use it.

I apologize if I offended you in stating that I thought the price was a little high. I have tried Maildroid many times and found K-9 better for me for now. I did tell the person that they should make up there own choice on what they like.

I am curious of what email programs on Android are you comparing it to when coming up with your price?

As the developer, you have a right to set any price you want. It is up to us as patrons to decide if we think the price is right for us to spend the money on your application.

In my opinion, and reading a lot of other future buyers opinions, most people think the price of 17.99 is a little high. Most people I have talked to think around 4.99 is the sweet spot of what they would spend for an application like yours. Again, don't take any offense to what I have to tell you. I would love to see you make as much as you can for all your hard work on your program. You really deserve it. But knowing about business, sometimes you need to come in at a lower cost to make more money. Would you rather have 1000 people pay 17.99 or 10000 at 4.99?

I know there are a couple of paid e-mail apps that are more expensive like Moxier Mail that syncs with Exchange and adds push mail from an exchange server which is 19.99 .. I am going to buy the pro version and yes I think it is a bit much but Maildroid does deserve to get paid for all of his hard work.

HTH,
Charlie

Well, its just a matter of value for the added functionality. When I was a Palm user there was a superb email program called Chatter which I paid over $35 for. At that time it didn't seem very much as the native Palm email app was so crippled and Chatter introduced push email to the Palm platform which added a great deal of value. The introductory price point for most apps on the Palm platform was much higher and I probably paid over $10 for most apps as there were no ad supported free versions. I am a Gmail user and I find the built in Android Gmail app to fill most of my needs, certainly much more than what Palm did for me. Maildroid does add some useful features but the cost of the program may be hard to justify as the native Gmail app isn't all that bad.
