MailDroid

Some things that need to be fixed:

*) Imbedded attachments still don't work. They are now recognized, but selecting them does nothing
*) Need some kind of byte count when downloading attachments
*) If the phone is in use, don't vibrate or audible alert, very annoying
*) New mail alert should not alert if mail has already been read elsewhere
*) New mail alert needs to be cleared if new mail is read elsewhere
*) Last couple of releases, and this last one, 1.53 is the worst, does not communicate to the server well at times. Odd errors like "can not open folder that is already closed" "error opening folder" and other odd errors. Usually refreshing mail clears it up, but not always.

Quick question, maildroiddev. I tried setting up MS Exchange email account with MailDroid but to no avail. Yet, using the stock email program that came with my phone, I had no problem setting it up. What gives?

Google licensed Exchange Active Sync for their stock email program. EAS is Microsoft's supported method of communicating with an Exchange server; it gets as close to how Outlook does it as possible (at least, that's my understanding).

MailDroid uses WebDAV (Web Based Distributed Authoring and Versioning). It's possible that:
  • Your Exchange server doesn't actually support DAV
  • I've seen posts/threads that hint that DAV configuration can be much like voodoo and you just haven't hit the right combination of settings
  • I get the feeling that EAS config can be somewhat automated, while DAV might require some tidbit of knowledge about the Exchange server in question
It's one reason why I haven't moved off of the stock program for my Exchange server, and why other programs (like Touchdown) cost money - because Microsoft charges licensing fees for EAS.

Nothing against MailDroid or K-9 - they're giving away programs that aren't necessarily the simplest things to write. The only thing they're losing is time (for the most part). If they had to license EAS, they'd be losing money, too. And while WebDAV would seem to be a viable free alternative method of Exchange integration, I get the impression that it doesn't always work as desired.

Thank ericdives!
Our TI guy couldn't get Exchange server to work either, so I think your point ("...Exchange server doesn't actually support DAV") is the key here. I am definitely keeping the stock program for my Exchange server!

From what I understand, the licensing fee for EAS is ~$100K. Personally, I don't see how anyone who doesn't have the deep pockets of a large company (e.g. Google) can afford to use anything other than DAV. I guess the only hope is to try to figure out some hooks for the EAS in Google's implementation and "borrow" it. Even then it probably isn't legal according the the license agreement MS has with Google.

As the dev says, right now MailDroid is only supposed to be Exchange 2007 compatible. Could that be the problem? It could also be related to some specific security settings your firm is using.

MS has always been problematic. Another option might be to use the Exchange server as an IMAP/POP3 server. If I remember right that is an option if you are only interested in access to your email without other Exchange-specific features.

I feel your pain.

I agree. I've only had this app for half a day and love.
(direct Address book access)
Maybe this could added this opposite side from the "x" (delete) on the "compose" screen. That would be lovely for me.
Also, maybe it's just me, but i would like to search all my Gmail folder at once instead of individually. Am I missing something. Great App thanks!

Instead of having to hit the menu button and picking choose a folder, can you put the folders on top in tabs? I really like that function in the stock email app that came on my epic and miss it on the rest of the email apps...

I really like this Idea!

All,

still have problems with this version....forces close. Black screen....

Please, where its possible to download the previos version ???

tks.

Thanks to your help, I got IMAP push to work! I cannot recommend your app more! Honestly, I get my emails pretty quickly without having to update every time. Thank you so much!

Lags getting worse

Love Maildroid but.....
I know its been previously mentioned but the lags, black screens, etc are worsening on 1.53
I often open the app to a lag and then a "process killed" message.
At other times I will long push in the message list to delete and there will be a long delay or flash back to the message list without any deletions.
I would love to see this corrected in the next version.
Thanks.

@everyone

Sorry, been working on the updated version. Yes, there are some stability issues in 1.53. All will be resolved in 1.55 which comes out in a few days.

If I use comcast as incoming pop and gmail as my outgoing service can I make maildroid use my comcast email as my reply to address?

Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

In theory you can use any outgoing (smtp) email client, providing you have active service/plan with it. I use a standalone outgoing email client (smtp2go.com) for ALL my email accounts without any problems.

@everyone 1.56 is out. It has a ton of bug fixes and some new features. One of the biggest new features that came from requests from this forum, was spell check.

Having trouble with notifications. I'd like different sounds for each of my three accounts, so I setup rules. Each account has an identical rule aside from (obviously) the sound chosen and the account itself.

Only one account gets a notification of any kind. The other two receive no LED, sound, or icon notification. If I open Maildroid, the message is there though (as in, the unread count is noted and an asterisk exists.

Removing and recreating all rules makes no difference.

All three accounts are Google Apps accounts setup via IMAP.

Sprint Epic 4G.

Thank in advance.

Edit: I lied. Notifications are rarely working on any account and even if I delete the rules and just use the global settings.

Performing a lot of tests, it seems to work about 5% of the time. I tried with altered states of the sleep mode setting as well.

Please give me a detailed explanation on how you tested this. I just ran through a test with 5 different accounts with different sounds for each, as well as different LED. I also assed some to have an icon and some not to have an icon. Some things you need to know:

1. LED won't flash if your screen is on. This is an Android thing and nothing I can do about

2. If the LED flashes green for one account and another account had red and an email came in and you never checked the green account, it won't flash red. It can only flash one color at a time

3. If an email comes at the same time from 2 accounts, it will take the account that came first and use that sound

4. If you turned things off in the Notification Channels, they will over-ride any rules you may have.

5. If you turned off vibration or sound at the device level, that will also over-ride anything in MailDroid

I unit test this for every release, so unless I have a bad test (which is possible), I find this surprising.
