Major boot problems

So i got an incredible from a friend to replace an old feature phone today. The first time booting it i had no issues it took me right to the guided setup screen to activate the phone and whatnot. So at this point it looks promising until i decide to turn the phone off so i can go to work. When i get off i try to turn the phone on so that i can activate it and do all the fun stuff, this is where the problems start. The first try this time gets me to the lock screen but when i go to unlock it the phone reboots itself. Okay, so now I'm a little concerned but whatever i try to reboot it and the phone never goes past the first droid incredible screen. so i figure "hey, lets try to do a factory reset". I can get into Hboot with no issues but when i click factory reset the phone goes into an infinite reboot sequence never going past the first droid incredible screen. Some key things - phone is listed as "S-ON" in Hboot and no custom ROMs or rooting have ever been done to this phone.

any ideas guys? need any more info to help diagnose the issue?

thanks in advance

I never stooped an activation mid way, but apparently it's a bad idea.

Do you know if you were using Froyo or Gingerbread when you got it?

Either way, I think you probably need to re-flash the OS.

If you know you were Froyo, then you can flash either the Froyo or Gingerbread images from here:
Stock Images | PvilleComp's

If you don't know, then go ahead and flash the Gingerbread. If you want to flash in HBOOT, check the MD5 first!!!!! There are how to's in the ROM's and Hacks sub forum for Flashing from HBOOT here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/in...oot-rom-your-droid-incredible.html#post552570 and here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/in...id-incredible-gingerbread-ota.html#post980671

Hope this helps.

it was running gingerbread when i turned it on. I didnt think it would cause any issues because i never really made it to the activation just to the first page/step of the initial guided setup so i just hit back or cancel and turned the phone off. ill try flashing it with gingerbread

Personally, I would do Froyo. The GB update was pulled for this phone for a reason...

Just as a precaution until the corrected version is pushed out.

So I'm reading through the links you sent me and do I need to root the device first then unroot it to just flash the OS? Either way how do i go about doing this if i still cant get into the OS to sync with my PC or anything like that?

I'm not sure if this will be helpful but when i try to get into Hboot it says this

"SD Checking....
Loading... [PB31DIAG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB31DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PB31IMG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB31IMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!"

i'm assuming this isnt a good thing and might have something to do with my issues

The instruction links are for unrooting, since you are already unrooted you can ignor that part - I ment them to be instruction on how to flash in HBOOT.

If it's not recognizing the file, make sure you check the following:

Is your SD Card FAT32?
Did you check the MD5 for the file and they match exactly?
Is the file named PB31IMG.zip and not PB31IMG.zip.zip by accident?
Is the file on the root of your SD Card (Just on the SD Drive not in any directories.)?

Hope this helps.

Those are the most common problems.

i cant pull anything up by plugging in the phone but when i put the SD card in my computer it shows several folders but none of them contain any files. Would the files youre referring to only be on the SD card or would they be on the internal memory? is there a place to download said files to put onto the SD card after formatting with windows?

The zip needs to be on the card, without being in any folders. So once your memory card pulls up, drag the zip to any blank spot on the card

i downloaded the .zip file and let it install/update everything. after it went through the update process it prompted me to reboot so i hit yes to reboot. after i hit yes to reboot the phone rebooted, this reboot brought me to the lock screen and it rebooted almost instantly and got stuck in the same infinite reboot loop again
