Major bug/crash/reset issues on Marshmallow

Ok so I updated to Marshmallow this February and since then the phone has had issues regarding

1. Some/all android permissions and sense 7.0 settings reset after either any of the following: reboot/recovery/random shutdown.

2. The battery only lasts till approx 20% and then phone abruptly switches off and the only way to get it back on is to charge use charger.

I actually thought I was the only one with the issue because my phone is two years old and I expected the battery to lose capacity. However after a Google search I found many others who have this issue. So it's clearly a bug...it seems for some that even factory reset doesn't solve the issue... anybody else noticed sense resetting and random shutdowns?

This is why I refuse to update to Marshmallow as HTC probably won't update the M8 to sort out these bugs.
I would really like to update as there are many useful functions that I can do with, but I don't want my phone to become rubbish.

Hopefully htc will sort it out and release an update, but I doubt it.
They have purposely done that so the phone dies at 20% to make you think that your battery is dying so that you upgrade your phone. I'll just stick with Kitkat because I have no issues.

Totally agree... I used to get excited about updates but know I realise that is best to stick with the version your phone was designed to run with on launch. KitKat is king!

Have had the same issue since upgrading to MM. Called HTC support and they claim they dont know anything about it. I suggest more people call and complain, that would be our only slight chance of getting it fixed.
What I have done is to set my M8 to automatically switch into extreme power saving mode once it reaches 20% battery life. Then I get it on a charger asap.
I had been thinking of upgrading to the HTC 10 but after this issue I refuse to.

Thanks for the information!! I will contact them too hopefully they will release an update. Just out of interest do you have all the the latest HTC service pack and sense home installed on your device?

The reason I'm asking is because when I had the latest version service pack and sense home I had even more issues such as weather app not working properly etc

I wouldn't be a surprised if HTC have added code to degrade the old phones so that we upgrade... look at what Volkswagen got caught with!!!!

Yes, I have all updates installed. I even did a factory reset and reinstalled all of my apps and system updates and still have the same issues.

Hello
I have updated my android just for few days all things were right but after I had same problems. What is the exact solution for these issues?

I haven't a solution... the only thing I haven't tried is factory resetting from recovery menu as advised by an article I read on Google.

Update: I did a factory reset from recovery and reinstalled my apps manually, so far things are better, not perfect but better. It's not resetting when it shutdown, restarts, or crashes which is good... but the battery percentage indicator still gets stuck but now it gets stuck at 10% instead of 15%, so I guess there is slight improvement there!

I'm still going to upgrade but will wait till the Axon 7 is released to see how that stacks up against the HTC 10..

Argghh spoke too soon...was relaxing listening to music and phone died on 20%...settings OK on restart though...

Now not so sure if I can hold on for the Axon 7....

I don't blame HTC I blame myself...this 90 day promise to update software is generally NOT a good thing...it means software engineers are rushing to meet deadlines...and rushed software means problems.

One of the biggest problems is with htc not updating software with the M8 and leaving bugs and poor performance not addressed. For example the lollipop update had many problems but htc did not update the software for one whole year. If I remember there was supposed to be the 6.0.1 update with sense 7 to come to the M8 but HTC did not go ahead with this. This would have addressed the lollipop bugs.

Now that Marshmallow is out there's a few bugs that need to be sorted out. This is probably the last update us M8 users are likely to get leaving a really good phone with buggy software. This is just not good enough and yes I feel it is HTCs fault. They have done this on purpose and made the HTC one M8 not worth having. So everyone who has these bugs need to hit HTC up. So at least HTC can release an update. I'm not expecting Android M even though us M8 deserve another years worth of updates.

When the M8 came out
We were supposed to get 2 years of updates. We have only had 1 years of updates as we didn't really get any updates last year. So yes maybe we should get Android M.

That is very true with regards to HTC not updating the OS revisions. Yes 6.0.1 Marshmallow would be nice but i don't think HTC will do that. They need to at least support the second revisions of the updates because as you said the second revisions usually stomp out the bugs that were in the first version. There's no point in saying they will update within 90 days if they are only going to update to the first version of e update. It's weird because with HTC one m8 KitKat I think they updated that one at least twice. I think I remember they released the phone with 4.4.2 and then they released 4.4.4?

I must be extremely lucky with my M8 cause I haven't had any issues since running the marshmallow update. I have my original phone from June 2014 and I never done a hard reset since having the phone! I just make sure my cache is clean and make sure everything is updated.. no problems at all! I wonder what's causing issues for you guys??

Just wondering do you ever let your phone get to 20% because that's what's causing the problem when it gets to a low percentage and then it Shuts down. So for heavy users this will be a problem. But for those light users that charge their phone every night at say 40% and up this won't happen.

😳 for the most part no I don't.. The battery is normally around 30/40% percent when I get home at the end of the day.. But coincidence last night it was at 15% (I was heavy on facebook through out the day) and it notified me at low battery.. It didn't shut off though nor act weird in any kinda of way.. I just plugged it up as I normally would every night! 🤔

I wonder...if sense is incompatible with one or two apps or Google service. Because when I recently reinstalled the first time it drained fairly normally. But after all my apps and Google services were updated it started behaving badly again and shutting down on 20%....

It's beginning to tick me off. When it does shut down I have to go back in and redo all my personalized stuff (alerts and widgets and such) . I'll have like 30 updates because all the apps I've disabled are re abled. Usually it's at 20 percent but it's happened a couple of times at 49 percent. It just started doing this in the last month or so.

Sorry to hear that... I'm in the same boat... surely HTC must know about this issue, but do they care...? Im starting to get to the point where I might consider rooting it back to KitKat...

So if your phone problem free... What would happen if your key you're phone drain to 10%.. it's weird that some people have this issue even with a reinstall

I have the same issues - it is getting really frustrating now.

Phone resets/shuts down when battery reaches 10%, sometimes below 20%. After this, all app permissions are reset to default and all Google settings (e.g. Ok Google voice settings) are reset to default. I have switched off Power Saver, which reduced the number of resets I've experienced but did not fix the issue.

After some reboots, I get the "optimizing apps" message. Thereafter all my contacts are deleted (have to delete and add back my Google account to get them to sync again). In addition, all Google app and HTC app updates are deleted and I have to update again from the Play Store. Call history and all other app data is deleted (have to log into all apps again). However, my internal storage is still full so the actual data is still on the phone somewhere. This is in effect like a factory reset, only my data is still on the phone but inaccessible to my apps. This has happened to me twice now - seemingly at random times. Interestingly, both times I've been away from home - maybe Google location services/GPS or something is causing the crash?

This is really irritating. I have not had this much trouble with a phone since the days of Eclair on a SonyEricsson (which says a lot). My HTC OneX (previous phone) was still working perfectly after two years. Before Marshmallow the M8 was running perfectly as well. Wish I never upgraded.

I was going to buy an HTC 10, but I lost all patience with HTC. If they did this to try and get me to update to another phone, it's not working. I will update - to anything other than HTC. HTC can really not afford to **** off the few loyal supporters they currently still have.
