Major bugs with contacts?

Is anyone else experience major issues with contacts on this phone? I've noticed at least two, and they persisted after multiple factory resets.

When viewing the People tab in the People app, I can confirm that my contacts have synced and they are on the phone. This is important, because...

1) When I try to dial using smart dial, contacts that ARE in the People tab are not found while under the Phone tab. I have not been able to figure out what makes some contacts work while others don't, but I've run into this problem with most people I've tried to call. For example, when I dial 5366 for JENN, I get some contacts named Jennifer but not my girlfriend, which is the one I'm trying to call. Even after making a call, the number shows up in my recent calls without a name. Yet, again, when I look in the People tab, my girlfriend Jennifer is listed with the correct phone number.

2) Similarly, while in the Messages app my text messages are shown without names connected to the phone numbers. When I look in the People app, I confirm that the correct phone numbers are associated with the correct names. Even more odd, when I tap on the contact photo it brings up a card with the correct contact name and info, but it is not displayed when viewing text messages. I've tried adding the number to an existing contact (even though it was already there) and that fixes the issue temporarily, but eventually the text messages go back to displaying the number with no contact name. Worse yet, they've started to go back and forth, sometimes displaying correctly and sometimes displaying without contact info.

Has anyone else experienced these or other issues with contacts on this phone? I love the phone, but this is REALLY annoying since I have to look up who sent me a text message 75% of the time and can't rely on the smart dial function in the dialer.

I had some difficulty but was able to work around it. I like all my contacts to be viewed as Last Name First. I was able to choose that view in People but when I viewed the phone book from the dialer, all the contacts viewed as First Name First. Could not get it to view Last Name First in both places. Finally edited all the problem entries in the dialer phone book by "Last Name, First Name" all together in the "Family Name" edit field. Now both the People list and the phone book list in the dialer view as Last Name First.
As to your issue, do you happen to have multiple GMail accounts? And could your contacts be spread about in more than one of those contacts lists?
I added a contact earlier today, then went back to double check it and it did not show up in the People list but did in the dialer phone book. Came to find out, I saved it in the wrong contacts list, as I have 3 Gmail accounts I use. I corrected it by deleting the contact, then re-adding it to the main GMail account that I use for all my contacts. Hope this helps.

I have multiple GMail accounts, but I recently did a factory reset and I am experiencing the same issues with only on GMail account set up so far.

Unfortunately, I feel confident at this point that these are definitely software bugs because the behavior is entirely inconsistent. After the factory reset last night, I was able to use smart dial to find and call four contacts that did not previously show up as smart dial results. one of those contacts is named Parker, and I dialed PARK to find him. Here's the thing: when I posted this thread, dialing PARK would bring up the local park district office in my smart dial results, but not Parker. After the factory reset last night, PARK brings up Parker bu not the park district office. This morning... it suddenly brings up neither. There seems to be no rhyme or reason why any particular contact will or will not be found using smart dial at any particular time. I'm hoping if someone else is experiencing this maybe we can find a pattern to work around the issue until HTC fixes it (IF they fix it... which I REALLY hope they do, because this is incredibly annoying). Same thing in my text messages. At one time in the day, they may all be displayed with the proper contact name, and then later that day they may only display the phone number, and then back to the contact name (for some or all, it's not consistent) later again!

Same problem, but when in dialer or creating a new message and entering a name, if you use the quick search (typing the first few letters of a name) it will still bring up the correct number, the name just doesn't show. Assuming a fix will be out eventually, not a deal breaker...Love the phone!

Hmm, you're lucky. I'd have a much easier time putting up with it if dialing PARK brought up Parker's number but without his name, but I just get no results at all on my phone (even though I've confirmed that Parker's contact info is synced).

I've also noticed that the dialer distinguishes between 1-XXX-XXX-XXXX and XXX-XXX-XXXX. If I dial 1-312-555-5555 and then try to dial 312-555-5555 later on, the previous call won't show up from my history and so I'm stuck dialing the entire number again. Example of how I came across this: The phone number for one of my contacts is saved with the 1- and I called her by going to her contact page first. The next day, I dialed the first few numbers of her phone number without 1- (since dialing her name doesn't work, grr), and still got no results. When I tried again by dialing 1- to start, the call from the previous night was brought up as a result.

Considering these are all things that worked flawlessly on my OG EVO, I'm pretty disappointed that HTC's new Sense software seems to have so many issues with contacts

There's a specific phone setting in there for numbers or names check it out. Lots of personal selections have change from the other Evo versions and now with ICS( ice cream sandwich).

I am having the same issues and it is frustrating. T-mobile claims that I am the only person calling in with this problem.

I don't know if you still check this thread, I have had this issue since I feared I was being hacked in April 2012. For 3 months I would have issues with blocked numbers on my online account and people could not call or text me and I could not do the same. I could not even cal 911. It's not just the EVO 4G LTE, it's been every device I had. EVO 4G, Blackberry Bold (Verizon), HTC Rezound (Verizon), HTC EVO 4g LTE. Each device has had syncing issues with google. Example, JOHN SMITH saved to google from my device would be 555-123-1234. 5 minutes to an hour later when I least expect it, I try to text John back but no reply. Luckily I remember some numbers in my phone and JOHN SMITH was 'changed' to 555-123-1235. See the difference? The last digit was changed. Recently all number have been changed, meaning the order, not just the last number of the 10 digit phone.

I figured it was a facebook issue to as that also gets synced and thought well maybe that person changed their number but all 10 people was fishy. This still happens to me and if you have a fix besides not using GOOGLE period please let me know. I have deleted my email account, switched multiple devices, new laptops, new HDDs, new passwords, new everything, even left my gf because I thought she kept changing my contacts cause strangely it was all women. Terrible right..

Sprint told me I was the only one having these issues and no one else had this problem. I called support everyday to be told I was being hacked by someone at home. Hopefully all of the recordings were recorded and they realized they made an ass out of themselves from not taking pride in the customers concern.
