Major Issue for me

My Note 8 seems to do everything brilliantly.

Except there is one issue that is massive to me and it could mean me returning it. I'm hoping somebody here may have a fix.

OK Google / Android Auto can't send WhatsApp messages.

Can you please see if it works for you or is just me?

If I say 'OK Google, send a WhatsApp message to john Smith', it opens the WhatsApp dialogue, then says 'You don't have a WhatsApp account for John Smith.' even though it will let me then type the message and hit send manually.

This is useless to me because I dictate and reply to messages a lot using Android Auto.

I've spent all day Googling this.. restarting, reinstalling WhatsApp and Google app.. clearing contact caches/app caches etc. Nothing seems to fix it.

Some threads months ago suggested this was a problem at Google's end but it looked like it was fixed with the latest update to the Google App.

Not for me.

It's so annoying because this is a great phone but this is one issue where I have no room for compromise at all.

Please can you tell me if you're in the same situation or if you had this, how on earth you fixed it. I don't have weeks to wait for Google to sort it at their end. I'll have to reluctantly return the phone if not :(

Just a friendly reminder that on any internet forum, it's helpful and courteous to use an informative subject line when you start a thread. That way, others can tell at a glance which threads they're interested in clicking on. And you're more likely to get useful comments that way.

I am wondering if you are willing to use Bixby for sending Whatsapp messages. It works flawlessly for me and I use it a lot while driving.

I did try bixby while sitting at my desk and wouldn't quite work it out for WhatsApp.
It also isn't compatible with Android auto from my understanding and that's a big thing because I use that all the time.. or am I missing something?
Is nobody else suffering this issue?
Thanks ??????

I havent used whatsapp in a long time but I do know the last time I did it was working in android auto. Its one of the compatible apps so it should be fine.

If you can give me some time to knock out a couple work emails Ill go out to my car and test it.

Just tested it for ya and its working as it should. I can listen to and reply to messages. Ive got a Ford Sync 3 system that Im using Android Auto on.

I would start by clearing the cache on the android auto app and whatsapp. If that doesnt fix it I would clear the data for the Android Auto app.

Hi Tyler.
Thanks for this. Really appreciate you trying for me but my problem is more that I can't initiate new messages. I can reply and view other ones it's just new messages. Are you able to do that?

I just went out and tested it by starting a new conversation. I was able to send a message just fine. I said "Ok google send whatsapp message" it asks who I want to send to so I said the persons name. Then it asked what the message was and I spoke the message. Then it asks to send or change and I said send. It sent and the message went through.

And I just got a message back saying "I thought you didnt like whatsapp" lol
