Make Moto G ignore Motorola flip shell?

I got the Motorola Flip Shell for my G3, and I like it quite a bit. What I don't like are the changes in phone behavior it causes. I know these are features, but to me they feel like bugs. The flashlight chop gesture doesn't work when the shell is closed. I can't snooze the alarm with volume buttons when the shell is closed. Etc.

Is there any way to make the phone just ignore the flip shell and behave normally? Would love to have those features back the way they were.
