Over at Post your boot images here (With instruction how to flash) - xda-developers is a discussion about making boot images but I am having trouble with the zipped utility for converting and transferring the image over via flash, so I was wondering if you guys knew of another method to convert the image file into the correct format and flash it over?

I have included the rather simple jpeg for anyone who wants to have a go.

Apparently someone over at MoDaCo has informed us all that the Pulse hasn't got a splash partition like the HTC's, so we're all working out how to do it for the Pulse over there (I have the same name there for anyone else that wants to join in).

Boot / Splash Screens - Android @ MoDaCo

I have come up with a long-winded solution and will be testing out my idea.

  1. Open up the December 2009 update SOURCE CODE zip and find where in it the bootsplash image is hidden and what it is actually called.
  2. Make sure the bootsplash image you want to replace it with is in the standard format and is named appropriately.
  3. Copy and paste your new bootsplash image into the right place thus overwriting the old one.
  4. Go into eclipse and load up the December 2009 source code folders as a project in your workspace.
  5. Compile December 2009 update source code. You should get something that looks like the actual December 2009 update with all the correct IMG files and folders that you would find in the dload folder for the December 2009 update.
  6. Copy and paste that new dload folder into your SD card on your phone.
  7. Make damn sure you have just done a full backup of your phone with RA-pulse-v1.5.2 and saved a spare copy to your PC.
  8. Do the Update and then reboot to see if it worked.

It is a somewhat long winded way of doing things, but it might work...

Nope, couldn't find a thing in the source code.

I hope that when they do the 2.0 or 2.1 update on the T-Mobile Pulse that they add a separate bootsplash ROM like other phones have...
