Hi everyone,

I am completely new to the Android and tablet experience. I've only had the tablet about six weeks but the last several days everything seems to to crash and I can't do anything but leave the battery to run down on the device so I can reboot it. Then today my avast antivirus stated that settings was reported as malware and gave the option to uninstall. Obviously if I uninstall the settings app I'm going to be a little stymied for options on managing the device. Anyone know what I should do in this instance to clean up my tablet? the last couple of days I've run several scans of the apps using avast and nothing came up, only when I went to open setting today did this notification appear and now I am unsure how to get rid or how to find the offending source of this intrusion.

Thanks for any advice.

First things first. Do a factory reset. Don't install avast and don't install ANY other apps and don't root your tablet. Log into your google account and just hang out for a day, see if it reboots. If it does, then you've likely got a hardware issue. If not, it's something you've got installed.

Second, you don't need an anti-virus program if you're smart, and especially if you stick to the Google Play store. If you like rooting, and sideloading/installing apps from third parties then you run the risk of problems.

Um, don't know what you're on about! LOL. What's rooting? And how do I do a factory reset? This is all new to me and I ain't no techie, either. I've only installed apps via Google Play, and they were all scanned by Avast upon installation. The Settings app was already installed on the tablet when I bought it.

Bigger problem now though... can't even start the tablet. It froze this morning and so I disconnected it from the mains electricity and left the battery to go flat. reconnected it and now it won't start up. it did this the other day too and I thought it had overheated so left it a few hours and it started again. Can malware be the cause of this?

Anyway, thanks for your reply, even if I don't understand half of it! LOL. I'll look into all you have suggested.
