You renamed it properly? update.zip and not update.zip.zip

Strange.....

I had the same problem. Put the SD card back in your phone and then go into your My Files App. From there, make sure it's named update.zip. If it isn't, you can rename it from there by long pressing the file and renaming it. I renamed it on my computer but it didn't translate over to my card for whatever reason.

Hmmm.... I'm out of ideas... Everything should be a go ...

I would say wait and see if your get the OTA... If that doesn't fly then we will have to look into getting your rooted and update that way... Just doesn't make any sense that the update.zip isn't working.

You don't by chance have it in a folder on your sd card? it has to be at the root of the card, so not inside any folders. You've already made sure that it's not .zip.zip, so that should be good.

I am getting the same error. wont boot up with new software and wont install. This sux and now i have to wait for ota, but dont want to because Sprint sux for time to get it out. Can you use odin for install???? I would prefer to do it that way instead of trying it the other way

Im having the same problem. is it because im running EH17? My Epic reboots a dozen times a day because of the EH17 leak. I dont want to have to wait for the OTA if i can just do it manually ya know.

same here. Im running EH17. is that the reason for the update problem? Anyone else getting the error on update running EH17?

thats weird because I'm on bone stock EC05 and i still can't update.....dumb

I can't think of any reason why this isn't working. You have it on the sd card itself and not in any folder, and it is named update.zip and not update.zip.zip. If you are bone stock, then it should be working. Do you have another sd card laying around that you could put the file on?

Check your internal storage. It has to be at least 50% free to do the update, according to what I've read various places.

Also ditto on OTA or manual update only working with stock EC05. I had rooted and stripped down EC05 and had to go back to stock EC05. I just had to have GB the day after release. ;)

Doesnt it unzip automatically? Even before you rename it?
No the file remains in its "zip" form as you downloaded it... Doesn't matter if its named Gingerbread_update.zip or carraser891.zip etc... When its applied in stock recovery your device "internally" unzips the file and does what it needs to do.

I also can't get the manual update to work. I got the OTA this morning, but it crashed at about 1/4 way through and won't let me try again (says I'm up to date, even though my version is FROYO.EC05). Downloaded the official version from the Google servers, but it fails:

Clockwork Mod Recovery v2.5.1.0

E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip

Installation aborted.

I'm rooted, but nothing else. Verified on the phone that the file is "update.zip". Earlier it was failing because of another .apk and I realized it was part of the bloatware that I removed. I put all the bloatware back, but now it's still stuck on the Gmail.apk. I used sdx stock app remover to remove the current version and put my back-up copy in its place, but still nothing. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I've downloaded updates from the Market, still nothing. I found in another forum here the .tar of all the stock .apks, so I got the Gmail.apk and put it in the system/app folder using Root Explorer, rebooted, still same error message.

Any ideas? I really don't want to wipe it...

So, I think there's something wrong with my stock Gmail files. When I delete all of the Gmail updates, Gmail won't run on my phone, even though the Gmail.apk is in the system/app folder. Does anyone know what files are associated with Gmail that I could try to replace to see if I can get it working again?

Thanks!
