Mapping Apps Experience

I'm looking at either CoPilot Live or Navigon for my SGT 7+ and would like to know about the experience of others who might have installed either of these mapping apps. I'm particularly interested to know about the experience of loading the maps onto the external SD card and using them. If you can't do that, it would seem to me the apps are pretty limited. I've been reading user reviews and it's pretty split evenly between those who love them and those who hate them. :-\

I have Navigon - works ok - I have used it for about 4 months now but it is not the best GPS Nav program I have seen. It could not locate some valid addresses I selected in NY, PA, WA. CA and ON and BC Canada. It obvoiusly needs Can/US map updates. I expect this will happen eventually under the Garmin influence.

In my opinion the voice options in english suck and while the maker has tried to be polite, the extraneous verbage is annoying. For example: The scripted voice uses PLEASE when giving directions such as "at the next exit please exit right" being a pilot I prefer straightforward curt directions as used with ATC without unnecessary words. PLEASE has no place in such directions. Phrasolgy is important to convey clear and concise messages.

But overall the App is OK and I will continue to use it until TomTom comes out with an Android app. I have a TomTom GPS and Garmin GPS unit but having the GPS App on my phone gives that extra flexibility while on the road. I use a Garmin Aviation GPS while flying and I love it. It is the best I have.seen.

Navigation apps that rely on having internet connectivity just don't cut it for me.

Hope I was helpful

It wasn't clear if you had installed Navigon on a smartphone or on a Galaxy Tab but I'll ask my question anyway. Did you download your maps to the internal memory or to the external SD card?

As an aside, yesterday I downloaded CoPilot Live and within hours I had regretted it. I found the UI very cumbersome and not user-friendly at all. I'm not unfamiliar with navigation mapping software. Anyway, I'm going to bite the bullet and install Navigon, which I should have done initially. Since I pull a trailer a lot with my truck and travel to Alaska every other year, I thought the RV feature in CoPilot would be cool to have. It's just not.

Thanks for your comments.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.

I put Navigon on all my android devices. Once you pay it can be downkoaded onto any device you have logged to the same google account in the app store. (All our devices log onto the one account.)

My wife and I each have a galaxy s2 phone and I have galaxy tab 7 she has a 7 plus.

I put all maps for all US states and Canada on the 32gb cards i have for each devices.

I use Navigon all the time and i updated all maps recently and they are better. I have a holder for my phone in each of my 4 vehicles plus a Tab 7 holder in my RV. I also have a TomTom and a stand alone old Garmin .Street Pilot but the latter is a bit cumbersome because it will not store all the Maps. I mostly use the phones in the cars and the 7 in the Rv.

NAVIGON IS Ok. Have not tried it in Alaska yet because my normal flying route does not take me there, but i use my phone in many places. I recently downloaded Navigon European Maps. They work fine. But i still don't care for the voice options and the extraneous verbage when it gives voice directions. Would appreciate reading feedback.from others experience with Navigon and other Android NAV App.
