maps eating up battery?

Anyone else notice this? Seems that when I use maps for a quick address lookup, NOT nav, and with GPS off, the battery drains quickly and when I look at battery use stats Maps has been using upwards of 50% of my battery! Think this is accurate? Maybe its working in the background and constantly updating location or something?

No mine doesn't do that,i searched with maps like you did but, my usage rate declined shortly after i quit using maps

I have had apps in general do that b4 if you realize its happening with maps just go into settings - applications- "running" tab , find google maps and then tap force close. That way it will shut down and not run!!

Noticed this ever since the last update. I uninstalled the update and it's been fine since.

It would eat up GPS when I had never opened it on the phone since I turned it on - go figure. I'm waiting for the next udate to hopefully fix it.
