March 2023 security Patch

Another Month, another delayed update from Google! Maybe they should go to quarterly or something. They seem to not be able to make monthly on a regular basis anymore.

Would you rather it arrive on time and end up breaking something on your phone? I'm sure you'd also b***h about that. It's not like your phone breaks the moment an update is late. Be patient.

I hear what you are saying, and you're right, it isn't a disaster......BUT, one of the main reasons I buy the Pixel line is the supposed prompt security and feature updates. It seems like it is so hard for them to get them on time recently. It's not like they don't know when they are supposed to have it ready. If they can't get it right for their own hardware, that seems like a fail to me.

How about we get both, and have it on time and correct?

Google is worth a few gazillion dollars, and can surely hire enough capable people, but evidently these patches don’t have a very high priority.

Plus the astonishing lack of transparency bespeaks the same low priority for pixel owners’ satisfaction.

I am really peeved.

Sheesh. People really upset about their security patches. I'd rather it be late and have whatever bug they found fixed. Other manufacturers put things out too quick and with bugs aplenty(*cough* Samsung). Or maybe a serious security vulnerability just came to light and they are including it. Maybe they arent following the sam e schedule anymore. Ooorrr, maybe they're just trying to **** you guys off. Whatever, so it's late. ??????*♂️

I'm not bit##ing, I'm stating facts. Sorry you can't handle that. When Samsung is outdoing Google at updates there's a problem. Google has plenty of resources to get these out on time, and they had pretty much no issues from previous pixels. The shift to their own silicon was supposed to make updating easier and more seamless, yet 2 years of tensor have so far returned mediocre results 🤷

Yep, this is spot-on (I have lots of OS design/dev/test experience, old, but same principles).

If you somehow get notified or discover a serious issue/vulnerability/whatever, say a couple of days before your fully-tested-ready-to-ship package is scheduled, it's a big dilemma.
Options are pretty much cross your fingers and ship, or fix it, do all the regressions and a decent test pass and such, and then re-bundle and ship.

I'd much rather have it a few days late, or whatever (what exact risk are we so concerned about here, maybe someone who's all upset has some stats or other telemetry data, hmm? :-[:D), than get some news a week later that there's a huge issue that we'll have to wait another 3.5 weeks for, at that point, but that's just me, I suppose...

Yes, it's not the end of the world to be waiting for a reliable working update. The problem is the total lack of communication from Google. Just let us know if there is a delay, the reason for the delay, and the planned eta.

Samdung is not outdoing Google at anything. Don't know if you remember but Google released A13 to pixels before Samdung did. I don't think any Galaxies are on the March security patch either. My friend with a Galaxy gets tons of ruthless Spam calls while I only get maybe one or two that manage to get through to my Pixel.

There seems to be a strong consensus that I am getting all het up over something that really isn’t that important.

Therefor, I shall stifle myself. (In this thread)

Most of us are Tech Geeks so it's something to talk about but nothing to go crazy over.
