Market doesn't show all of my installed apps

I have some apps that i have downloaded and I had saved on my SD card... they install fine and work fine, however, when i go to my "downloads" section in the app market, only apps that i've downloaded from the market are there. i know, that's probably what is supposed to happen, but what if the ones i had installed outside of the market get updated?... how do i update the app at that point without repaying?

were did you get the sd card apps from? are they on the market? or were they from sprint or someplace else?
