Ok, so I?ve been researching about this for a bit now, but I?m still a bit confused. (I also didn?t know what forum to post this in, so hopefully this post will find some knowledgeable people.)

I know that there are names for different screen resolutions:
WVGA- 480x800
qHD- 540x960

?and tablet-common resolutions
WSVGA- 1024x600
WXVGA- 1280x800

I also know that there are types of sub-pixel arrangement (two that I?ve heard of):
Pentile
Non-Pentile (I think Samsung has dubbed this ?Real-Stripe?)

I also know that Pentile screens have a RGBW (red, green, blue, and white [or clear]) sub-pixel arrangement, or, more commonly, a RG-BG sub-pixel arrangement.

If you want to see a picture of these two screens (on a regular screen and a Super AMOLED Plus screen), then go here.

On that same website it says that Sammy can only currently make these ?Real-Stripe? displays up to pixel densities of 200 pixels per inch (ppi) because of the increase in pixel size. I guess why that would explain why to make the new Super AMOLED HD screens, they have to go back to pentile technology, at least for the time being[/URL].

I think I?ve heard that non-pentile displays enable sharper text, but can somebody explain why? Also, what are some other differences between these two screens?

Also, what do things like AMOLED, Super AMOLED, LCD, SLCD, etc. mean? I mean, I know they?re screen technologies, but can someone explain them?

My last question is: can you have different combinations of resolutions and technologies? I.e. can you have a Super AMOLED at a qHD resolution?

Sorry for the long post, and I hope I didn?t bore you to death (and bore you into not answering :))

What sort of jump quality-wise are we looking at between what is on the Galaxy SII right now and the new 720P screens Samsung is working on? Huge like SDTV vs HDTV?

I am coming from a Pre and cant decide if i just want to grab the GalaxySII in early Sept. or wait until late Nov. for the new Samsung ICS/720p phone.

The SGS2's display is fine as it is. I've seen a Droid Charge's screen and it is fine, if not, spectacular. You won't spot pixels unless you're trying to. Me, personally, 480x800 is fine but having a 720p screen on my phone would be a cool bonus. :)

So would u prefer a pentile 720p screen or a non pentile 480x800?

I would take a pentile 720p because at 4.6 inches with a density of around 319ppi, I don't think you will be able to spot pixels very easily, if that.

I would agree with this because I don't have ANY issues with my super AMOLED screen on my captivate at about 233 ppi with a pentile matrix

Yeah, if you're worried about this thing not being able to push the pixels at fast pace. Really, you just have to picture this as a tablet except with a 4.5 inch screen.

no, i wasn't worried... just stating that i wouldn't have a problem with the pentile matrix on the SAMOLED HD screen because I don't have any problems with it on a SAMOLED screen

Honestly i have an original dinc, and by that i mean the one with the AMOLED display, and i can only see pixels if i look close, so all these higher PPI screens seem silly to me (more money, battery consumption) though i also understand if you compare an incredible to am evo, you'll see a difference since it's a larger screen with the same Res. Don't get me wrong, i would gladly take a full HD screen, bit its about the least of my concerns when phone shopping.

Also, terms like "super" AMOLED are just marketing.
