Master sync turned off?

I can't believe that simple sync button was causing all of my problems for the last 2 weeks.
Thanks for the fix, it now works and my email is back to normal.

Well, I did resolve for myself, so I'll try to explain what I did (forgive the non-technical terms as I don't know what to call some things!)
From the home scree, I dragged my finger down from the top of the screen to access the notifications screen. On that screen, in the upper right, is an icon that looked like a chess board and took me to a screen of icons for various functions (WiFi, GPS, Sound, etc.) One of those functions is "Sync" and somehow it was turned off. When I turned that on, my e-mail sync started working again.

No idea how it got turned off but that fixed my problem of the "Master Sync" being tured off!

Thanks TAYLORRG, before coming across your post I was almost tearing my hair out. Your instructions were perfect and easily understood. Email notifications now working as good as ever.
