Media playback stops randomly?

I've been off android for the past 3 years so I'm not as used to it's quirks as much currently, so not sure if this is a common thing or not.

On my Pixel 2 XL, I find that my media playing, specifically (because it's what I use most often) Spotify and Google Play Music, sometimes randomly just stops with no notification, and no action leading to it.

Is this a common thing?

Not for me, I'm a Spotify user, could be your mobile data in a week area
Edit on second thoughts maybe Bluetooth ongoing issue with the new pixels

I've experienced YouTube pause each time a Play store update occurs in the background on my 6P

I've also seen this in Spotify and Youtube

this happened to me when i was at the gym with apple air pod on.

the music paused half way. (never happed on my nexus 6p)

I thought the air pods ran out of juice. After pressing on play on youtube, it started to play music again.
