Media stops playing

Hi. I am trying to figure out how to do other things on the phone while media is playing, such as streaming music or playing a video. But when I want to go onto the internet or Home page, it stops playing. For example, if I am playing a video on YouTube and want to check my mail, the video will stop. Is there any way to prevent it from stopping? Thanks.

As far as I know, YouTube doesn't run in the background, but if try streaming music from music player apps, or internet radio apps (like Tunein), you just need to press Home Button to minimize the app and do other things while listening to music
