Medium power saving mode, but without background location disabled? Is it possible?

I havent found a way to do this. I have been having issues with google maps not wanting to give directions while the screen is off because it would stop receiving my location. I always have my device on medium power saving mode but today when i changed it to optimised maps magically worked while the screen was off. I wasnt aware that medium mode disables location in the background, and im not finding an option to disable that setting for medium power saving. I have already modified the permissions for maps to allow data usage and location in the background but that doesnt help.
So, is it possible to prevent power saving from disabling background location access?

Hi, welcome to AC!.
You can try long press the medium power save see if you can change it , but thats going away on andriod 11 and only having 1 power save mode

Thanks but I have already tried that as well, long pressing doesnt give any options.
