Looking at the storage use on my N7 a disproportionate amount of space appears to be used for Cached Data e.g. whilst Music appears limited to 6GB and Video / Pictures is currently 3.9GB, the Cached Data is 7.1GB (i) why is this? & (ii) if I empty it will there be consequences / can I do anything about it? I am starting to use some mapping apps, so wonder if these are the culprit?

Don't know what is causing your large cache..my browser cache can get pretty big sometimes. You can clear browser cache in your browser settings. I also use cache cleaner from play store for all my other apps. Clearing your cache shouldn't hurt anything.

Many thanks - I do this all the time on my laptop but tablets seem to be a whole new world - have cleared the cache and all appears to be fine. With Jelly Bean 2 you can just go into Settings-Storage-Cache-Clear/OK and it's done in the blink of an eye, no need for other apps. There's still a remnant of 18Mb for some reason but it's a whole lot better than 7.1GB.
