Memory Issues

Seems like there are just as many people in this thread that are here to play defense for Google and tell others that their problems are not valid rather than being helpful all because the Pixel 3 is faster than the galaxy s4 that they upgraded from.

And on replicating the issues....I can only sometimes replicate the memory issues very easily. More often issues came up when I was say 20min+ into a car drive using navi and music streaming at the same time....or say 10 minutes into a youtube video streaming in the background while using chrome or other apps. I think what's happening is that app is increasing it's memory usage along with me opening more browser pages and other apps.

I could replicate the camera issue, but initially the camera issues weren't even what brought me to this thread, it was just day to day use of navi and music/video streaming.

I disagree that many people in this thread are here to play defense for Google and tell others that their problems are not valid rather than being helpful all. Many are just sharing their experience and their opinione as well. Many of us spend a lot of our time trying to help people. Always feel free to state your case, however others should feel free to state their case as well without being accused of defending Google or being accused of claiming that issues don't exist.

Just putting this out there because I have no idea but in App info >>Advanced settings there is a "Draw over other apps" could this be causing conflict with certain apps trying to play together? Like I said I have no idea

Many (I won't say most - I haen't used most) music apps and many video apps stop when they aren't the foreground app. But the way I hammer my phone, with half a dozen active (even if not running) apps in RAM, I don't see a problem. Maybe it's peculiar to the Pixel 3 and 3XL - I can't address that.

IDK what apps you're using but any music app worth its salt runs in the background and has for many years. Especially ones like Spotify that are mentioned with this issue.

I haven't met a music app that doesn't run in the background...I can't remember them ever not running in the background, but I suppose it's possible during early Android.

Well we're 5 pages into this thread and people still have to waste breath insisting that the issue even exists....like the post from Almeuit above in response to Rukbat. So yeah, I would argue that people are claiming that issues don't exist, and it's a little frustrating at this point.

That's OK....it's an open discussion and we all have different expectations and experiences. I try not to take it personal, though sometimes it's not easy and it can be frustrating.

That's a valid point. However in most cases for me I've had videos from YouTube retained from hours later (I was shocked trust me based on this thread) even after using some other apps.

My scenario is associated to front facing and portiat mode, which makes me to start think some have one set of memory issues (background apps closing, I don't really have this problem) while others have others (my camera app crashing). I hope Google rolls out a fix soon for all of us.
It is not inconceivable that you would use YouTube and then want to take a picture. Then when you go back too YouTube only to find that it closed.... Sometimes not saving your position in said video. It is an annoyance that's we shouldn't have on the Google Flagship phone.

I'm hoping that the November update brings us good news....maybe tomorrow

Glad to see google acknowledge the issue and say a fix is coming, won't be today but most likely with the December security update.

Just tried that....YouTube was right were I left it after I took pictures. It won't run in the background without a subscription. Having tested it, I normally don't do it and it didn't crash. If it did stop from memory after opening a few apps it personally wouldn't matter that much too me. If it matters to someone else it is certainly important to them but I'm not about to worry about how many apps have to reload after opening a few. Just how many is a good number?

Ok... Just tested on my S8.

Had 5 pages loaded in Chrome, had YouTube going and I took a pic AND video... Nothing crashed. YouTube auto minimized and continued playing, it's still playing while I'm making this post...

This is a Samsung Galaxy S8 with either 3 or 4gb RAM, I don't remember which. I think 4.

The point is, this old phone can do what the new Pixels can't? I don't understand that.

I believe it is something that will be resolved or at least I hope so.

Are you waiting to buy?

Yes sir. Especially after yesterday.

The wife bought an iPhone Xs at BB. I compared the Xs to the Pixel 3... Man, I've never wanted an iPhone before, but this one is pretty smooth. I love the gestures of the iPhone by far, over the Pixel. It's not even close.

I almost picked up an Xs, but, well it's still IOS AND it's over a G, so I passed for now. After I've had mood time to play with her phone I may indeed pick one up. It's that good (at least at first glance).

There's nothing inherently wrong with IOS in day to day usage. I use it for work because that's what we use as an enterprise solution. I much prefer Android though because it's easier for me to navigate files and media. I know I can do similar things on IOS for my needs but it's a preference. It's good to be able to use both because I still have FaceTime when I need it. The camera is still better on Pixel though, at least as compared to the iPhone X.

I was kind-of on the same boat as Kalvin.... Many times I thought I would give iPhone a try (especially with the new Xs Max, as I like big phones)... But since I have iPhone 6 from work, I get to use iOS and Android, so I experience both. So many times, the fact that the Xs Max starts at $1,200, probably not worth it. I feel like if I try it, I will get bored of it fairly quickly, as iOS in general has not changed since day 1. (overall look and feel)

My wife is always complain that her X isn't any different than the 6S she gave up. I keep pointing out the screen size but it's like she doesn't see the real difference.
