Mesmerize rooted

How'd the Odin flash go?

Ok, so I did a full wipe/factory reset [official EE19] and SD format after copying/backup the apk(s) of several apps to my pc.

Copied back to the SD card my media and those apk(s), the very 1st thing I do even before setting up my Google account is installing the Z4root app and it didn't worked.
It opens, loads the ad, I touch the tap of permanent root, shows the msgs at the bottom of app screen about running the exploit for about a minute and then it vibrates once, after a few seconds the app closes, and then you get the triple vibrate. Afterwards the phone seems laggy to the tap/swipe responses and you cannot open Z4root, it just vibrates when you tap it.

I just wanted to say this because I think the EE19 shut the exploit that this app uses to root.

Ok now I'm gonna ODIN back to the EC10 from this forums hoping it's the very same I had before, because if it is, I should not have any problems of missed calls/txt or GPS or compass as I didn't have when I had it from release until I updated to EE19. And yeah, I opened maps before the Z4 failed try and the compass its screwed and GPS is not locking with ease.

Wish me luck it's gonna be my 1st ODIN flash.

How'd the Odin flash go?
Hey, sorry for the absence. It was a busy week...

Anyway, the flash went very well, no problems at all during or after and the phone has been working ok.

So now I've been back for a week at the EC10 stock and running ADW Launcher in a very simple 3 page home with a couple of widgets [facebook and BW-home] and a few shorcuts to apps.

Not much running on background: Weatherbug, Lookout, SystemPanel [all full ver]; facebook, simple android day-night live wallpaper, google voice, and the usual installed apps that run and stay idle on background until other overtakes the memory.

I still wish I have root access tho, but haven't searched or tried another option other than the failed Z4root app.

Oh!! There's one thing that I tried before flashing to what I have now; I think is worth mentioning:
So I was poking around on the forums and got to the Merge forum where I found a link to download the Netflix apk and being a Netflix subscriber OBVIOUSLY I had try it even when I was sceptical. Well it did installed and to my huge SURPRISE it did open and login to my account ok, browsed and search just like I do on my iPod (UI also looks the same), so I tap the play to one show and it did turned to the landscape red screen and ready to play, it connected to Netflix servers and it did recognized the app version outdated so it promped me to update because that version wasn't supported by Netflix anymore, but the problem when you update is that the new version does crash/closes when you try login; in other words it does make a device supported check and it closes on you.

So I went and posted the info on the forum and just today I found that one dude

try this new updated apk and see if it works. I do know that it doesn't work for all phones but it does work for the merge and some other phones. Maybe the updated apk will work for your Mesmerize.

Go to [APP][Updated 6/21/11] Official Netflix - xda-developers

And download com.netflix.mediaclient-1.apk is Netflix 1.2.2 (Released 6/15/11)

Let me know how it turns out.

I haven't tried it but just thought I mention this and see what you guys say. Maybe open a thread Netflix for Mesmerize? ;)

Has anyone found a way to root the Mesmerize with the 2.3 Gingerbread update? I really want to get this USC Crapware off my phone.

There is an Odin installer version of Gingerbread over at rootzwiki.com that is pre-rooted. It has to be added on to a base Gingerbread install, but is a way to get around not being able to root otherwise.

OK I have z4root installed on my USCC Mes. Running 2.3 still cannot uninstall all of the junk that came on the phone. ... HELP!???
I know I have got to be missing a step. I have read and read the whole thread and I still have be missing something.

Ok, Im new to this, but I want to root my mesmerize. I have been trying to root it with NO LUCK using superoneclick, Z4 and IDK what else. I finally figured out how to get into the recovery. NOW WTF do I do. I downloaded 2 different gb roots (17&20), I moved them to my sd card and tried to install them, but all I got was a message saying "E: failed to verify whole-file signature." Someone plz help before I break my phone. LOL

I also have this old clunker of a phone and would like to learn more about the pros and cons of rooting it. Is there an updated thread one of you can kindly point me to, or someone still using a rooted Mes that I can chat with?

Cheers

Honestly I would check out TeamUSCellular.com - #1 Site for US Cellular Customers ! ...they have a boatload of info on the mesmerize as well as a bunch of roms and other downloads you'll need. Most other places on the web the downloads are no longer available due to the takedown of mega upload.

I rooted and rom'd a mesmerize for a friend a month or so ago and teamuscellular had everything I needed.
