Message icon on the home screen

There is a problem in the Samsung Galaxy s3. The messaging icon on the home screen continuously displays the number of unread text messages though there are no unread messages in the inbox. I encountered this 3 days after the purchase. Went to nearest service center. They reloaded the OS. But the problem recurred again after 3 days. The technical support at the Samsung now says that we have got a new update to ICS which will solve the problem.
Reloading the OS is really messy. Does anyone have this problem with SGS3??
