Besides a program running in the background, why is there no way to have the LED on the phone notify you when there is a missed call, or SMS??

What you talkin about Willard?? My phone does light up the LED light when I have a missed phone call, SMS, VM, email or even an IM when I am logged into ebuddy..

Oh mine I have a flashing green light when I get the aboved mentioned, or when I am logged into ebuddy, I get a flashing blue light..

Yeah my Droid doesn't flash the notification light anymore either, I'm on a rooted/OC'd 2.1 btw. Not even handcent notification lights light up...this is really annoying

No originally I was on Jrummys remix 2.1 theme, the using rom manager went to a a stock rooted 2.1 with chevys 1.0ghz kernel

Yea that's Cyanogen but themed. There's an option to enable/disable led's and it's disabled by default.

Just open up ur SMS app I believe, and hit menu, then enable the LED.
Might be in the Spare Parts app or in the Settings.
Can't completely remember...

I just downloaded spare parts and checked and there weren't any notification settings in it to enable the LED, nor was there one in the stock SMS app :/ thanks for the help so far btw

No no, spare parts is included with the rom.
It has special options specific to the ROM.
Gimme a sec, let me load up the ROM on my phone and help you out.

And don't worry, it's not an issue with your phone, it's just a setting with the ROM.

i was having this same problem after switching to the cyanogen rom and was able to fix it by enabling the pulse notification light setting under the trackball settings

I'm thinking I need to flash back to cyanogen and enable it because there aren't any trackball settings in the stock rooted 2.1 rom

Yea I just now loaded the ROM and found it.

@Auxilary

Go to Settings, click on Sound & Display, and then make sure Pulse Notification Light is enabled.
And no problem, I'm here at this forum to help! Anything I can do to solve someones issues. If you need any help don't be afriad to ask, you could also shoot me a PM

EDIT:
Yea just go back to the Jrummy's Remix or w/e
It's better anyways :p

I think ill have to go back cuz there isn't an enable pulse notification light under sound and display settings :/ ill revert back to cyanogen thru rom manager in a little bit and get back to you guys. Thanks again

What apps do you have installed?
Did you ever use the LEDs hack?

in stock 2.1 the color LED will only blink when the screen is off correct? maybe that's the issue running the ese81 rooted version too.
