Message Notification Sound cant silence?

Just got my wife the Blaze 4G and its great but when a SMS comes in and the notification ringtone goes off, you cant silence it at all by pressing any buttons as far as i can tell? My old Mytouch 4G would silence if you press the volume buttons. Anyone know a fix or is that how the phone works and you just have to listen to the notification sound?

Also, the phone vibrates when the battery is charged no matter what even on silent... seems odd and great to hear it vibratee in the middle of the night when sleeping or trying to. '

if i'm not mistaken, you can silence any sounds by turning the device over.
