Messages: Why is there "1" showing up in folders?

When I go to "Messages" which is my text messaging icon, I see 3 different folders at bottom of screen. One folder says "All Messages" which has a "1" in green circle. The second folder says "SMS/MMS" which also has a "1" in green circle. The third folder is the Voicemail icon. What does the "1" mean? This would seem to indicate a new message, but there's no new messages. I also deleted all Draft messages, so it can't be a draft message either. I think this first showed up when I took a picture using the Thunderbolt, and then tried to send a text message with a picture attached, and got some kind of error message saying the picture is too large to send. Anyway, how do I get rid of this "1" showing up in both folders? Thanks, Casey

Had this problem for the past couple days, and finally was sick of it. This morning, I tried deleting all my SMS messages. After that didn't work, I did this: Menu - Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - All - Messages, then hit "Clear Data". That resolved the issue. You can try doing this before deleting your SMS messages, but it may delete them when you clear the data -- not 100% sure (it does warn it will wipe them).

Perfect, that worked! No more 1 in folders! All my messages remain intact also! Thanks a bunch, much appreciated!

Yes this happens when you receive a new text message, read it, and hit the back button quick enough before the messages main screen has time to refresh. And that green bubble will stay there until you do the clear data. Or when you get another text, read it. Once done hit the back button once, this should take you to the messages main screen and wait until the green bubble goes away and you can hit back again to go to the home screen.

Hopefully something can be done for this bug. Not really bad, just annoying sometimes.
