Messaging/Hangout problem.

So I was playing with my gs3 one day and decided to update and try out Hangouts. They have an option to activate SMS through hangouts, sort of like a 3rd party app, and I tried it out but didn't like it so I turned off the sms option.
Now I'm back to the stock SMS app and I still get messages but I never get notifications anymore, ever since I first used hangouts. Anyone know how to fix this? I've disabled everything for hangouts and enabled notifications for the stock app but still nothing.

The same thing happened to me. You have to Uninstall the hangouts update. Just disabling it won't work.

Try clearing the data for Messaging app.

Hangouts 2.0 completely breaks SMS/MMS notifications.

It also stops the Messaging app from showing Notification badges for new messages on the icon.

I tried enabling SMS in Hangouts and turning off Notifications there so that I could get badges and notifications from Messaging but still be able to see and send from Hangouts but it seems enabling the SMS in hangouts breaks everything in the Messaging app. Hangouts isn't a good SMS client, so it's simply not worth it to even have it installed and enabled for SMS at this point.

I have the same problem as you folks. I have tried handcent and chompsms to no avail. Tried to uninstall and reinstall, no dice. Any solutions?
