The message app that I am using has the blue oval with a tail icon. When I enter a name for a text I get every number that I ever used for that person to choose from. I want to delete the obsolete numbers but I can not figure out how to do it.
On another note is there maybe a better app to use than the one that came with the phone I had messages before from verizon that is no longer available

That removes contacts from my phone, but it appears that messages have their own list of contacts that I can't access, when I start a chat and put in a name I see names and numbers I never used maybe they are from gmail connected thru google. Ex if tyou are in google and I type your name to start a chat all your google past info shows up? google accessing their data base. maybe?

If you've already removed the obsolete text/phone numbers in the Google Contacts app, try clearing cache in both the Google Contacts and the Google Messages apps and restart your device. Let us know if that takes care of the obsolete numbers issue.

Could you have linked whatsapp or some other app to your contacts? If so, you will need to unlink them.

I use SMS Organizer for text messages. You can find it here if

If you're looking for an alternative to Google's Messages app, try SMS Organizer. Its a Microsoft Garage project and I like it very much.
