Messenger killing my battery

I dont have it so I cant look though the settings and this is pretty simple but...is there any setting for reducing the sync period? So it doesnt sync as often? Also is there a way to exit the app when your done? I know some apps if you press the back button it will kill them, has anyone tried that instead of just hitting home to X out?

I even forced stopped the app and it still was draining the battery. It didn't stop until I uninstalled it. I've had it installed since I got my Turbo and had it on my RAZR M before that with no problems, then yesterday afternoon it went rogue and killed my battery.

It's doing the same on my wife's phone. Off the charger for 20 minutes, it has already sucked 10% off her charge.

Well turning off the "In-App Sounds" as the other forum suggested didn't solve the issue. Messenger has taken almost 40% of my battery with roughly 2h 30minutes of CPU time. Something is keeping the damn CPU awake...

This is ridiculous.

I had the same drain issue on both of my phones. A S5 and a S5 Mini. Only started draining the battery on both yesterday. Uninstalled it on both. Might look to using Facebook on the browser on my phones instead and get rid of the Facebook app altogether.

Precisely the same issue on the Nexus 7 2013, 5.0.2 - had it for months, no problem, yesterday it drains the battery. I'm not even sure it downloaded an update.

Holy Bat Wings Robin....Just deleted Messenger. Had it installed for months and could not figure out why I could not get my phone to charge or last.....found the culprit, do not know why, but quick fix....deleted

Exactly the same problem since yesterday on my Galaxy Note 2. Messenger began draining my battery for no reason. Uninstalled Messenger until they fix this problem.

Also the same problem - 25% drain in 1.5. hours with using no apps at all. Found Messenger responsible for 50% and Android System for 25%of the drain by using the GSam Battery Monitor (Free in Google Play)

I had the same problem just start yesterday. My GS5 died at 2pm and it normally finishes the day with 50%. I didn't think to look up the power history. Then this morning, 1 hour in to the day I'm down to 90% already. So I look at my power usage and FB Messenger is 45% of my battery drain.

It hasn't even been used today. Right now, 1 hour and 45 min in, FB Messenger has been 46% of my battery drain and it hasn't even been opened.

It gets uninstalled now.

So far, FB Messenger does not even show up in my Battery stats.

I reported the problem to Facebook, whether it does any good or not who knows. The problem seems to be pretty widespread so maybe they'll do something about it.

Droid Turbo had the same exact thing crop up yesterday with the Messenger app. My phone was HOT to the touch and battery was at 60% after 3 hours which is of course WAY abnormal. Force stopped but it came back on. Had to uninstall the app and then all was normal. WTF did FB do to this app?

Mine started these issues yesterday.

Woke up to an almost dead battery despite being plugged in overnight. Thought maybe the connection had been loose. Plugged it in at work. Couldn't get it to charge at all until it ran out of battery and charged while everything was off.

Thought that restart would reboot whatever was going on but it didn't.

Went from 50% to dead in two hours of standby - not used at all, no screen, nothing.

Finally looked at battery usage. messenger was using 52% of my battery over the past 24 hours. Recharged on airplane mode, deleted the app, took OFF airplane mode, now normal behavior.

Weird. But glad that's all it was and that my phone wasn't botted. ;)

HTC One M8. About two days ago my Facebook Messenger app started eating all of my battery. My phone never heats up and I could feel the bloody thing burning the inside of my pocket today. My battery usually has about 65% after a 15 hour day. I was at about 70% three hours off the charger with almost no use this morning. The Facebook Messenger app had consumed almost the entirety of the battery-- I think I sent two text messages this morning. Other than that, the phone had not been used.

Something must have happened in a Messenger update because this app has been on my phone for months and never really had an issue.

I know as soon as I say this, I'll be posting a message tomorrow complaining of an issue, but I can honestly say that I've never had any issues with Messenger. I've used it on my Razr Maxx for a couple years and again on my Turbo now, without incident.

I have been having exactly the same problem! All of a sudden, Messenger started eating my battery a few days ago. I just uninstalled it to stop the battery drain. I changed several of the settings before the uninstalled, but the drain continued. Bye Bye For Now, Messenger!

Of course now that we've all deleted it we won't know when/if the issue is fixed. I hardly used the thing anyway and didn't install it until FB basically forced me to because I couldn't get chat messages through the FB app any more. I only get those messages every few months from people so no big loss. I'll wait until I have a big need (if there ever is one) to reinstall it and see if its fixed by then.

I wonder if there is any way for them to tell from there end that everyone is uninstalling it. Not sure if there is any kind of feedback to them from the phones.

Battery usage ranges between 61% and 66%. Reinstalled app but did not resolve.
You just know a sleep deprived coding team is frantically working to resolve.
