Metro Optimus M downgrade

I am a noob to all things android. I just got a LG optimus M through metropcs and need to root it badly. Its running version 2.2.2 and I need to get it downgraded to root it but everything I have tried has not worked. I have LGNPST and all the appropriate files I need but when I try to start the "upgrade" it gives me and error message "Failed to load setting xml file....". I have no idea where to go from here Anyone have any advice???

Why downgrade use gingerbreak its not in the market

I tried gingerbreak but I could not get it to work
