So this morning my S3 wouldn't recognize my micro SD card (a sandisk 32gb) I removed it from the phone and tried it on my computer and it didn't recognize it either. I tried another micro SD card in my phone and it worked. I'm guessing that the card is fried, my question is, is there any way to retrieve the data and pictures from the fried card?

I had the same problem with my 32 gig SanDisk micro sd and apparently for whatever reason SanDisk cards and gs3s dont play nice together due to something that sandisk was doing. anyway, SanDisk recognized that this was a known issue and is offering to replace the sd cards. I personally contacted them about a replacement, and they didnt give me an issue.

I explained that i had the gs3 and it fried my sd and this is a screenshot of what they emailed me. after that, they asked me if I wanted to use this company to try to recover data from the sd card an I said no and after they recieved my sd card after I shipped it to them(which they paid for) I got a brand new sd card :)

Yep. My 32gb SanDisk sd card died as well in my S3. They replaced it but I'm using a Samsung sd card now. The SanDisk is sitting in my desk drawer. Apparently SanDisk and Samsung don't play well together.

I know this thread is a few months old, but still relevant. Mine fried as well. Got replacement card from SanDisk and now The real question is, If I put the new one in my SIII, will that one get fried too?

It's a good bet, since to my knowledge Samsung and SanDisk have not yet ironed out the issue.

I have an older 32GB class 4 card (black card with white printing) from SanDisk that has been working flawlessly. I recently replaced it with a newer 32GB SanDisk Ultra class 10 card (red and gray painted card) that worked in a PC, but fried as soon as I put it into my S3. I had it replaced and fried the replacement in a different S3.

My plan going forward is to either go with another provider or use the older class 4 card. Amazon has it for $21. Amazon.com : SanDisk 32 GB Mobile microSDHC Flash Memory Card SDSDQ-032G-AFFP : Micro Sd Memory Cards : Electronics

After having my 64GB SanDisk card crap out I went with a 32GB Samsung card and have had ZERO issues.

Hi,
See my comments below, published back last year.

I discovered an interesting bug on some microSD cards which allows the lock to be defeated using low energy x-rays
and also permits dead but electrically OK cards to work again for data recovery purposes.
The vulnerable cards so far seem to be 32GB ADATA Class >6 ones.

Its also worth mentioning that these can be generated using an off-the-shelf spark igniter (I used a 9V one and a couple of 5642s or other diode valves) and the combination of short risetime and low work function Mg getter electrode used on these old tubes seems to do the trick.
Confirmed these are X-rays using scintillator sheet and Maplins project box as a light shield.

:)
