micro USB to VGA adapter

I have an adapter for micro USB to VGA (to connect to an LCD projector). It works fine with my phone (S4) and my Samsung Note 8.0.

With my Tab A 9.7 the metal USB plug does not seem to insert all the way as with my phone or Note 8.0.

Why would that be? I have pressed it in as firm as I can but it seems loose and the LCD projector cannot detect the tablet (but can find the S4 or Note easily). All other microUSB plugs seem to work with it for charging, connecting to a computer, OTG cable for using a flash drive, etc. I tried micro USB to HDMI plug/HDMI to VGA plug/VGA cable to LCD but this failed to work with any of my devices. Yes, I plug in the power cable to these devices as needed. I would really like to have the micro USB to VGA work - just needs to insert fully? But it will NOT insert fully. Is the micro USB on a Tab A different? I know there is a 5 pin or 11 pin difference of some sort.

Any thoughts or advice?

Try a short microUSB extension cable (you might have to butcher an OTG cable to make one).
