microphone not working on calls

Curious if anyone else ran into this. Just a couple of weeks ago my microphone stopped working during calls. I can hear the other party but they can't hear me. I've tried switching to speakerphone and back, and toggling the mute button on and off during the call, but no luck.

I know the microphone still works because I can launch a Google search using the "ok Google" voice command, and then speaking out my search term.

Any ideas?

Yep, I had the same thing happen to me recently.

I thought it was only outgoing calls at first (not sure whether I just didn't receive any calls when the problem first arose) but now it is definitely all calls.

Videos record fine with sound, so obv not a problem with the microphone itself.

I used the phone under water recently, so wondered whether this may have caused it, but like i said microphone works ok except for on calls, and no other issues....

:-\

Update

I have found a couple of potential solutions:

1) turn phone off and on - worked for me
2) disable google now

See below thread (i can't post links, just add www at the front):

Thanks for the link, useful to know. I'll try disabling the OK Google from any screen.

My headphone jack is acting up now, with the microphone contact not working consistently. I'll be on a call on my headset and partway though the call the other party won't be able to hear me anymore even though I can hear them. Unplugging and re-plugging the headset solves the problem temporarily, but it's annoying. Tried with other headsets, same issue...

Need to get this phone fixed or replaced under warranty...

Mine stopped working too just a few weeks ago. I knew it wasn't hardware because OK Google worked. That was the problem. Disabled OK Google and all good now!
[I pressed and held the home button and a circular icon Google came up. Choosing that I was able to select the menu -> Voice -> OK Google]

I have the same issue with android 6.0.1. I have had this issue with the LG Flex 2, I thought it was the phone. Now I have the Galaxy 6 and wham there it is again. Works with apps just not with out transmition.
What to do?

Solution for me:
Microphone does not work during calls.
I am currently using Lenovo A7000a- Android version 5.0. I had the same problem for about 6 months. I installed many OTA updates, but none fixed it. During calls I could hear the other person, but they cant hear me. However, it worked fine for some time if i restarted my device. So every now and then, I had to restart my device. Also, everything was fine while placing skype calls or whatsapp calls or testing mic recordings. I knew it was a software glitch and the noise cancelling microphone was to blame.
I googled a lot, and scanned through different forums, nothing helped much. Like someone told that using the speakerphone would correct it, but it didnt worked either.I even rooted my device to alter the build prop to change the value of persist.audio.fluence, however, no such element was found in my build prop file
I did two things after doing a lot of research:
1. I cleared the data in Apps>All>Phone/Call
2. Disabled all the apps in Permission Control that had the permission to i)Record ii)Initiate Call iii)Initiate Multiple Party Calls iii)Write MMS (everything that could use your mic.. ofcourse except the system apps).
I am not sure what solved the problem. But now everything is fine with/without earphones with mic. PS: My Call Recording app may be causing this prob, but I am not sure.
My phone is working fine from the past two days...Thought to share my experience with everyone.
Hope that helps.. :)

I'm on my 5th and 6th Lenovo Phab 2 bought 2 used for my wife and I sent them back bought 2 new sent them back received 2 replacement devices and still the same recurring mic issue, I did as you did and have been scouring the web in search of a fix, I'm running Android 6.0 and I absolutely love our 'phablets' with the big 6.4 screens I have 3 gigs of RAM and 32 gigs internal this thing is fast! I hate the thought of having to move on to another phone but I have to be able to make calls and I've already had important people hang up after not hearing me several times, I read where people disabled Google now, okay Google etc. Yes mine sometimes works on speaker same with my wife's and restarting the phone works to solve it for a call or 2. I've disabled permissions etc. I'm at a loss it is a glitch not hardware I know that but I've seen the ZTE forum where people were saying they had same probs and even found a list with all affected phone brands back in December 2014 in one forum and they were talking about 4.4 etc so it is an Android issue that started way back. I can't for the life of me figure out what to do to fix it though. I have a limited amount of time to solve it as I have to send the phone back eventually lest I end up owning it in this condition but as I said I love the phone! And whose to say the next phone won't have the same issue? If anyone has found an actual solution and not a 'workaround' I'd really appreciate it, I will try your fix here and see if that works and come back to the thread and post shortly..

With all the apps out there, is there an app that can help troubleshoot this issue? I see tons of people having this issue but doesn't seem Google has any fix for it. Can't believe that even the new Android has this issue. My LG G2 worked fine with Android 4, then Android 5(last update on LG G2 is 5.0.2) broke the Phone app using a Bluetooth microphone. I did a factory reset twice without any luck. Okay Google seems to work so it must be a software bug in Android. My wife has a Samsung Galaxy S7 and nobody can hear her when she uses a Bluetooth microphone so she disabled it. I'm surprised this obvious bug doesn't have a good solution when it has been around for more than 3 years!
