Microphone question

Probably a silly question, but where is the microphone?
I ask because when I use my hands free, I speak into the bottom of the phone like anyone would. No one can hear me. I noticed a little hole in the top of the phone to the right of the headphone jack. Is that the mic that I should use?

It is the other bottom speaker the one that doesn't effect the sound coming out when you cover it with your finger.

Nope, it's on the bottom right and the top does have a mic too

Your right hand side or the Nexus right hand side? The top mic is for noise/echo cancellation.
