Are there any SanDisk cards that come preformatted in FAT32?

There's a sale on Amazon today and I desperately need a card that's already in the right format since I have no working computer. Thanks.

Nope, it's to use with my Meenova. I had bought a 64 gig card only to find it's the wrong format and my computer is currently dead. So I needed another card and Amazon has a sale today.

It should be possible to format and SD card if your device is rooted. You'll need to install busybox and an app that will give you a command line, I installed Connectbot, then the following commands should format the sd card
Code:
su
mkfs.vfat /dev/block/sda1
The first line makes you root, the second actually formats the card. You may be able to do this without root, but I doubt it. I haven't actually tested this either since I'm not at home, so I haven't got my Meenova to hand.

Thank you! I'm faint of heart and not rooted so I have no idea how to attempt that. But it looks like fun. :D

Actually this looks pretty simple. Can you do it from Simple Terminal (I think that's the name)?

I thought you needed a computer to root.

Not my 64gig card. It came formatted exFAT. And I have no way to reformat it. And the card and Meenova are for use with my Nexus 5.

You do normally need a computer to root your device (unless there is an exploit, which I'm not aware of for the current version of android), but if you've already done that you can use root on your device without a computer.

I couldn't find Simple Terminal in the Play Store, but I guess that will work.

I missed this reply earlier and only read your other reply to my post. I guess my post won't be much use to you. You shouldn't be afraid of rooting a nexus device though, if you break something they are easy enough to get back in to a working state. I suppose asking a friendly neighbour if you can use their computer for 5 minutes to format the card is out of the question, but if you can can then Windows doesn't let you create FAT filesystems bigger than 32GB, but you can download third-party utilities to do it.

And for anyone interested, I made a minor mistake in my earlier instructions which I have now corrected and can confirm it does work (on the Nexus 5 at least) if your device is rooted and you have busybox installed.

Thanks for all that! It's called Terminal Emulator, sorry! But no, I don't have the use of a computer again yet.

Yes, thanks. I downloaded it a while back on my jellybean phone. :)
