Microsoft Outlook and OneDrive

Howdy,

I will soon be swapping over to Android from Windows and simply wanted to know, what's the best way to fully utilise Outlook: App or Android Email?

Also, can Android upload stuff to OneDrive like it does on Windows by default, or does it have to be done manually/separate channel?

Welcome to Android Central!

Both One Drive and Outlook are offered by Microsoft in the Play Store. In terms of how both work, I'm not quite sure since I don't use those services. However, there shouldn't be any problems using either when you make the jump.

The Outlook app is better than using the stock email client, IMO. I like having separate apps for different email accounts.

As long as OneDrive is installed and set up, you can upload to it.

The OneDrive app for Android is better than the one for Windows Phone. It is possible to upload full resolution photos to OneDrive using mobile data with Android. There is no need to wait for WiFi.

Yes, sadly it's gotten to the stage where apps on Microsoft's home Mobile OS are worse than on its competitors, not to mention a load of other issues since migrating over to Windows 10 Mobile.

Sad times for Microsoft, been with them through all the Windows Phone troubles but this latest move is troubling - I bought a £420 Beta smartphone :-(

The Outlook app is nice but beware of using the Outlook website on your browser. It's not bad, it's actually pretty good but it has limited functionality (e.g., you can't send attachments).

Makes sense though. There's more market share in the other platforms.

I used Windows Phone / Windows 10 Mobile for 3 years but got tired of the beta test this year and switched to Android.

Will the contacts in my live.com account show up in the dialer if I use the Outlook App?

Will the contacts from my live account sync with the dialer? I tried it on a tablet that is running 4.4.2 and in the Outlook App I can see the one test contact that I have in my gmail account. But in the stock People App, I can't see my contacts from Outlook. My concern is that I won't see those contacts in the dialer.

BTW, I posted this same question in a different thread but that one was specific to a Samsung phone so I thought I would posted here in the general forum too.

My family and I just came over from Windows Phone. I can not post a link apparently because my post count is low, but go to Paul Thurrott's site at thurrott dot com and type in Android for the Windows Guy. He has a few articles that will help you, especially on having the Outlook contacts show up in the phone's contact list.

I use the OneDrive app but prefer to use the built-in email, calendar, and contacts clients rather than the Outlook app. It wouldn't let me edit or add contacts.

Yes once set up go to contacts and settings and contacts to display and make sure outlook is ticked

Thanks I had already figured out that it worked. I also discovered that updates are not allows in the Outlook app for contacts. So I ended up setting ActiveSync with the stock app so I can update my contacts.

It's surprising how easy this transition has been for me after WP. I'm still finding my way around and learning about new apps.

Outlook is great with the Android app. I'm not a big OneDrive user, but I was never happy with it on WP - seems to be no worse, maybe even a bit better.

There's a Windows Phone theme, but I have no idea why any ex-WP user would want it because it's clearly not like WP when you know how that's supposed to feel! However, Arrow Launcher is interesting. Rather than try and shoehorn WP onto Android, Microsoft have made their own modifications to the workings of Android itself and it looks really interesting. Like any new user, I'm still wallowing in Nova Launcher and won't be moving off that any time soon but when it comes time to explore other launchers then I'll certainly take a look at that.
