I'm looking for someone with positive reviews of the Revolution. It's on sale for $49 on black Friday and thinking of using my upgrade for little cash.

1. Is there any one happy with their phone?
2. Is their a work around without rooting to make Google the default search instead of Bing?
3. Any other worthy advice or input?

1. I'm extremely happy with my Revolution. Outside of not yet receiving Gingerbread, I've had nothing but good experiences with this phone. The phone takes fantastic pictures, the call quality is great, and the phone is very powerful. The 4G performs extremely well in my area. With 2 bars of reception, I am able to get at least 12mb down, and 5mb up. Tethering with 4 bars yields 24mb down to my laptop, and 7mb up. Incredible speed - Verizon's LTE deployment is impressive.

2. AFAIK, there isn't. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm guessing that since Verizon sends it out with Bing, they must have some agreement to keep it on the phone. Rooting it is the only way I've seen to remove Bing / change the search provider to Google.

Thanks ebauman! Does the GPS on Navigation lock in quickly? is gingerbread out anywhere for the device?

I've had GPS lock on very quickly with my phone. Using Google Maps & Navigation is very quick and responsive, and actually has replaced my car GPS entirely. Using Foursquare with Google Navigation Services is extremely accurate as well.

Gingerbread is out in the wild for a subset of Verizon users.

A side note: I am on my second LG Revo. This is not due to phone malfunctions - rather I dropped my phone one day while working, and didn't think of it. Unknowingly, this damaged the LTE antenna inside the phone. When 4G was lit up in my area, the antenna malfunctioned, and overheated the phone. Verizon was VERY good about this, and had my phone replaced completely with no cost to me (and extended battery!) after an hour at the local store.

This first LG Revo had Gingerbread, and I loved it. My second Revo does not have Gingerbread, and I have been waiting a long time for it. My girlfriend has Gingerbread, and it functions great on her phone. I've talked with Verizon several times, and they are releasing Gingerbread in subsets of 10k phones or so.

Best of luck to you! I highly recommend the LG Revolution.

2 yes, Google "gingervolt Rom" involves rooting etc but you can get back to stock so they don't know you changed anything as per system files.

I just picked up one from eBay for $160 in good condition Buy-it-now. Don't waste an upgrade on it. If you must use your upgrade, buy an iPhone, flip it on eBay and buy this cheap.

Good device though, I rooted/rom'd immediately. Eats battery alive, I'm ordering a external charger and extra battery so it won't be stuck to the wall.

The battery is the worst thing about it. You can say that about almost all androids. If you have 4G, it's even worse but the experience is great. This phone is a whole lot better than a Blackberry!

You definitely need to get an extended battery for this thing if you want to go more than...oh...12 hours without charging. I have WiFi turned off, GPS turned off, screen brightness to 25%, and only 3G. That lasts me 24 hours, which is just fine for my usage.
