Okay I'm really thinking about rooting My Galaxy nexus or Unlocking the bootloader what ever it is on this phone. I've rooted my thunderbolt before and used CM on it and loved The whole rooting Thing. But i rooted my Droid charge Something went Wrong big time. The root process went Flawless, the next day i was trying to flash a rom and i might of done something wrong but my droid charge got owned! I'm kinda Scarred & Scared to do that to my nexus also. I mainly want to do it to download "Leaked Updates" Don't think i will be Roming who knows i might get adventurous. So let's put all that to the side and get to the real question. What do you guys think? should i give Unlocking/Rooting another chance? Any tips? so i can avoid Another *Droid Charge* Incident?? :p

I say unlock and root for sure. Just follow the instructions in Cyber's guide (stiicky'd at the top of this forum section) and it will all go smoothly.

Rooted is the way God and Andy Rubin intended Android to be :p

That and the superuser logo is badass.

Oh and your phone becomes a beacon of awesome.

Since you have an unlockable, developer phone, there is almost nothing you can do that's really going to screw you up. I'm not going into the basics of advantages because you say you've rooted and run ROMs before, so you should know if that's for you (which, it should be, because its awesome). Point is since you have a nexus you can almost always fix it if things go bad.

For example, I'm very good at this stuff.. but this week ran into huge problem.. my phone refused to flash anything new, there were tons of nagging issues nobody else was having... it was a huge mess.

Last night in a short amount of time I was able to completely restore the stock file images following these exact instructions: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/12/1...the-bootloader-and-return-to-a-factory-state/

Afterwards, I unlocked it again and went back to flashing ROMs, and everything is working perfect now.

Moral is, you've got yourself a Nexus, take advantage, don't be shy :)

Oh yeah I've Romed Before on my thunderbolt And I did it every day haha. It was Very Addicting

Unlock and root imo! This phone was made for it :) I used Wug's Toolkit from the sticky up there, it was really easy and the only hiccup I had already had a fix and explanation in the thread.

I agree I had unlocked and rooted on Dec 17th ,,,also later before but christmas I installed adb flashed back to stock image for about 30 minutes then unlocked and rerooted again .Before Dec 15 I knew nothing about adb .

I have rooted other peoples phone's since can do it in 5 minutes now ha .

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

Alright I'm Intrigued, gonna give rooting another shot! Take advantage of this Gorgeous nexus. That and i Hate how i lose Voice quality bars all the time O.o In spots i used to get full bars.

Do it - I just did last week for the first time and can't believe I waited so long to take the dive. Best phone-related decision I've ever made.

Boom did it! Now to install 4.0.4 should i also install new radios or??

If you're installing a 4.0.4 rom/OTA, you don't need the radios--they're in it. If you choose a rom, then I suggest flashing the 4.0.2 radios, rebooting, then flashing the 4.0.4 radios.

EDIT: Oh and welcome to the thunderdome.

I had a charge also before this phone. That thing was cranky when flashing stuff. It didn't help that we didn't have a solid cwm. The one the charge had was put together by imnuts who is a super dev, but the cwm just was very buggy. Nandroids were chancey at best and all the other functions were not solid. Flashing stuff was a lesson in frustration.

This phone is solid when flashing either with fastboot or cwm, very confidence inspiring. Can't say enough about the 2 touch based cwm options we have. I flash the crp outta this thing and its just so solid.

Looking for a rom? AOKP M3 all the way. :D

Soooo...what ur all saying is that even though I'm a nubie with a Nexus and have never done anything boot/rom related to any of my phones I can follow the directions that are stickied to 1st Unlock Bootloader and 2nd Update to 4.0.4? And if I screw something up I can fix it and not have a paperweight? And when the real 4.0.4 comes out OTA I will be able to download that without any changes?
